We were going to change our kit to green

I remember when I was a youth, some time around 1991, watching on BBC Breakfast a feature about how we were contemplating changing out kit from blue to green.

They were interviewing the laundry ladies and probably the Birch or somebody. It was pre-Carling stand era.

I know this sounds absurd but somebody must remember this?

Can anybody recall anymore detail about this?

I swear I'm not making it up.

Are you thinking about the green Ind Coope away kit?

No, it was much later than that. It was late David Pleat / early Brian Little era.

It may have been an April Fools joke or something, I can't remember what time of year it was.

I think time has played a bit of game with your head. We were thinking about having a brown away kit, as our kit in the old days was half brown, so we were looking at an angle on that.

Finally decided against it, but it was a close call.

I keep very close to kits, have a pretty good knowledge of them fron that era, including seeing some designs that we may well have used. But alas no green as I recall

Hmm, maybe. I quite clearly remember green though.

Can you remember when this was?

I have a vague recollection of the club debating the possibility of changing our colours to claret and blue, possibly late 80's / early 90's. Died a pretty quick death though.

I'm really surprised about that. I think all claret & blue kits look very old-fashioned. I imagine it was fashionable at the end of the 19th century, and was probably already old hat by the beginning of the first world war, so I'm shocked to hear that anyone at all would want to change their traditional colours for it so recently.

Coventry went with chocolate brown for their away kit.

They looked like it, and they played like it lol

I think it may have been around our centenary year as we used to play in claret and blue when we were Fosse (Historical LCFC kits) . The cynic in me thinks the board were thinking 'How can we get everybody buying merchandise they already own.'

That is why we never went for half brown. Your comments on Covs would have been made by many, hence it being pulled. That was the only reason.

It was Brian Little era I think when we were looking at the brown kit. Maybe MGhee time

We want no resemblance to the cov scum. The reason they played in brown was to certify they were shit shit shit

I am very confident the feature was about us changing out first kit, ie. the club colours. It wouldn't have made the BBC Breakfast news if it was just an away kit!

May well have been an April Fools wind-up.
