Mark Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 For all the unfortunate people stuck in the indie world after being influenced purely by the music press and Radio 1. I introduce you to, Nightmare of You, it's that type of horrible music thats popular right now, but done well. This is a great band. Listen - Nightmare of You - Dear Scene, I Wish I Was Deaf

Benji Posted 27 June 2005 Posted 27 June 2005 very good! i resent the comment about being influenced by radio 1 as ive not listened to it in years but what goes around comes around after a second listen his voice reminds me of hot hot heat in the goodnight goodnight song

They are all fabricated and driven by the industry in some way. Limiting yourself to one type of music and disliking whole genres only hurts yourself.
Mark Posted 28 June 2005 Author Posted 28 June 2005 I don't hate the genre Trev, just the bands that everyone has been raving about during the last year, not exactly hate, dislike. Mainly because bands like these will go unnoticed.

You just have to except that 'fun' music will make a lot more radio play because it more accessable to first time listeners than 'arty' music. It is a fact of life, hardly worth getting worked up about. Anyway, thanks to the wonders of the internet it is hardly difficult to acess new challenging music.
Jordan Posted 5 July 2005 Posted 5 July 2005 Hmm... I thought the Futureheads' self-titled album last year was one of the best albums of 2004, and they got somewhere between no and very little press in the U.S. I also think that Kaiser Chiefs' "Employment" is a fun album even though it really loses momentum towards the end, but they've not made any sort of splash in the U.S. yet (they're coming to New York in two weeks, perhaps a tour will help them gain some sort of popularity). I haven't gotten into any of those bands (or other English "disposable trash" bands like Maximo Park or Bloc Party) because the media prodded me into buying their albums, but rather because I've managed to hear them somehow and decided they were worth further listening. It's certainly better than Bright Eyes' histrionics, the crappy lost Depeche Mode B-sides that some bands are putting out (as if the 80s never existed at all--Yes, the Bravery, I'm lookin' at you...), the too-hipster stuff that's being pushed on the East Coast of the U.S., the too-folky stuff in the Midwest scene, etc. But that's just me. Maybe I'm just more into crappy lost Gang of Four or Mission of Burma B-sides than the rest of you.

I do understand what you mean but some bands will always go unnoticed.

I still like the likes of My Chemical Romance and Funeral For a Friend even though their big, and deservedly so. For the music they produce.

I am a fan of pop music, altough not those particular bands. There is nothing wrong with having what I described as a 'fun sound.' I was merely poiting out that it was more accessable for first time listerners and that this was not worth losing any sleep over.

I think you misunderstood me. I suppose, had I actually read that sentence on top instead of subconsciously skipping over it, I would have understood you. Sorry...
