Happy Fox Posted 17 November 2011 Author Posted 17 November 2011 It really is our downfall if we don't get any wingers NP has highlighted that we need width, so their shouldn't be any problems in addresing this, come the January transfer window I expect us to get 2 wingers in and possibly another striker
Thracian Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 I agree with this. I'm not one who would say that you definitely need old-school wingers to succeed, but we specifically are in desperate need of at least one. If you don't have pace out wide, you need to move the ball far quicker than we do, and you also need someone who can dribble and beat players in midfield. Neither Norwich last season or Southampton this season really play/played with wingers, but both have played some great attacking football in this division. Their movement off the ball allowed them to create width in play without having wingers, and they played the ball on the floor at pace. Norwich also had Wes Hoolahan, and Southampton have a similar player in Adam Lallana, attacking midfielders who get between the lines and make something happen. I was hoping King would have been this player for us, sadly his all round game hasn't developed enough and he is not up to that role. If you're talking about movement you're mentioning a whole new dimension and one that doesn't seem to have been heard of by Leicester coaches. I've only just mentioned Mackail-Smith and if you're wanting movement I can think of few better at our level. But we didn't want the guy enough. I too hoped King would develop this aspect of his game and have to agree that it hasn't happened...a point referred to when I said recently that he hadn't improved since becomign a senior. He's not improved in his movement nor in his willingness to drive himself into the box at pace. Whether that's his fault, the coaches fault or the fact that he's trying to do too many jobs I don't know. He might not have the will or the athleticism, or perhaps his coaches haven't got the vision or mentality to insist on his improving from a position of being "good to very good" in some ways. If so he should set improving himself. I've heard a number of people refer to "expecting top professionals to be just left to play". Me, I never knew anyone who couldn't get better! Yes, a 6-0 win would please me. Til the following Tuesday's training when we started dealing with all the flaws. I don't think King is ever going to be a sprinter. But there's far more to come from him given the right encouragement. But we need far more movement than just from King and Nugent.
ajthefox Posted 18 November 2011 Posted 18 November 2011 If a person doesn't believe he's right when he says something there's no point in his speaking at all. Yes. I completely agree, but whats that got to do with being self-righteous?
