An interesting look at Pearson vs Sven at LCFC

Recommended Posts

Yes, I did smile about that. But at least those stats paint a more credible representation of the reality than those which include Pearson's Divison One results, credible though the outcome was.

My opinion is that both have talents but are over-rated as managers. However the question now is whether Pearson can take an honest and analytical look at his own past performance (while wallowing in waves of exagerrated flattery) and improve on what he's sometimes done badly before.

There will be no excuses. If he wants wingers he can have them. If he wants a striker the owners will get him one. What will matter is how he puts the whole exercise together to make it work - in other words how he attends to the details.

I expect to see a faster, more balanced team, better coaching, specialists capable of delivering the basics like corners and free-kicks, people who find ways to disrupt organised defences, a high level of fitness, no passengers, no-one who cannot control or pass a ball and a real attitude to winning and sustaining a committed level of performance whether home or away.

Of course winning the third tier will boost any stats, but Pearson could do no more than that and did it well. We did struggle our way over the line a bit but early in the season, and around December of that year we played some superb football, none more so than the 4-0 win against Peterborough, who finished 2nd.

They probably are over-rated, Sven has had a great career in management (relative to most) but he wasn't without fault here. Pearson probably has been given an over-inflated status but that's not his fault, he improved the club a lot and gave the fans something they hadn't had for a while- wins. Half his games in those two years were wins, when we'd won about one in four in the preceding years.

I think he'll do most of those, especially the balance and the fitness. We will be organised and everyone should know their role. We have some good players who are comfortable on the ball, but we need to set up in a different way. King is better than what we've seen, so is Danns, so is Wellens.

Sunday will be interesting in lots of ways and hopefully we'll be back on here feeling good :)

Sven had to drag his team up from the bottom of the league where as Pearson had the momentum, knowledge of the team and therefore the team ethics embedded from his successful run in L1

Conversely as others have said Sven had the resources.

Perhaps the two cancelled each other out.

It wasnt hard to get ateam that previously finished in the PO's and now had money to spend up the table when Sven came in.

There was no turn around needed over the summer, Sven had no excuses and quite frankly wasnt good enough. You make the point about momentum but look at the players in the sides. NP has Weale, Neislon, McGivern, Oakley, yet they all played a part in getting us into the PO's. Sven spent millions on individuals who may be better players on papaer but he couldnt make a team out of the. Deserved to be sacked, and I have no doubt NP will turn us around qucikly.
