Our mental valuations continue then. I'm all for us being firm and trying to extract as much money out of sales as possible, but this seems totally unrealistic to me?

The Running Thread (formerly How fast can you run a 5k?)
Les-TA-Jon replied to Sly's topic in General Chat
I think last year I got in my head - 'I've been running for a year now and I should be able to do X,Y or Z pace' And I was running too fast on most of my runs. Leaving me tired, poor recovery and not really building endurance. The main thing I've done for the last 4 months is completely forget about pace and focus on deliberately slow running. I used to do 06:00-06:30 min Km. Now I'm trying to do 07:00-07:30 min Km. Or another way to think of it is just in terms of effort levels. So most of my running is trying to do an 'I can do this all day' or '4/10 effort' pace. So for the last few months I've done: Monday - 5K at easy pace Weds - Intervals (currently 5 min warm up run, then 1 min 'faster', 1 min 'slower' to recover x6 reps - but I need to move to something more progressive) Fri - 'Long run' at easy pace - adding 0.5K each week. So I spent the last 10 weeks building back up to 10K. Here and there I treated the Monday 5K as an opportunity to try for more of a PB pace (i.e closer to 06:00 min Km) to try and hit sub-30 -

Shaved 52 seconds off my 5K PB this morning and got my first ever sub-30 mins, which feels like a huge win psychologically! -

5 weeks until the first competitive game. 6 weeks until the first league game. 8 weeks until the window closes. And we have what? Multiple first teamers who need to be sold because we can't afford them/they're crap/they're toxic/they want to leave/we need cashflow And the squad is missing: A decent goalkeeper Defenders who can defend Goal scoring midfielders 2 centre forwards How good RM is or not is largely irrelevant right now unless we actually do the business in the transfer window. -

Been a good stretch of consistent running over the last 15 weeks. Much more focused on 'easy' and 'slow' running - and really feeling the benefits. Did my 4th 10K ever this morning (70mins) and was never out of breath or anything. I'm 36 and had been inactive my entire life, before I started Couch to 5K back in March 2025, so I'm happy with my progress. -
You seriously thinking we should have been able to get what would be something like the 11th largest fee ever for a teenager, when he's barely played, hardly played in the PL and we're a L1 side with little leverage?

I look forward to this in the future then 'Leicester city have opened up a new loan facility with Australian bank Macquarie, to bring forward £5.8m in monies owed to the club, from the transfer of J. Monga to Manchester City in July 2026"

5 weeks until first competitive game 6 weeks until first league game. 8 weeks until window closes. Huge rebuild required.

Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager

We've got to let go of this 'micro analyse everything the manager says' approach. Remember, Cooper 'said all the right things' re: working over the summer, turning up at lower league teams with his dog. RVN said all the right things about setting standards Marti turned up at a pub in Leicestershire, had a nice walk down New Walk, chatted about the club's past with the Historian fella Let's just see how performances and results on the pitch actually go. And right now the squad is completely different to how it will look at the end of the window... -
Nebulous to define but I reckon we don’t have a player as good as him on our books for at least another 2-3 years

It might be correct to say that Leicester fans were unsure of the appointment at the time, but it's incorrect to say Nigel Pearson 'hadn't done much' as a manager/coach at that time. -

Is this even the case? Obviously lets see what the window brings, but it remains to be seen who we'll be able to shift and whether or not transfer fees received are used to keep the lights on/ensure compliance with spending rules. Or if they can actually be used to reinvest into the squad. And even if we do have more resources than everyone else, do we actually trust our structure to use it wisely? And note that the current squad is already not any good. -
Russell Martin - Confirmed as First Team Manager
Les-TA-Jon replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
Not sure that's correct? He'd been in coaching for 10 years before he came to us: Manager of Carlisle, kept them in the football league on last day (Jimmy Glass moment) First team coach at Stoke Assistant manager at West Brom during 2005 great escape Assistant manager at Newcastle, at least one caretaker stint And before us, Southampton manager, keeping them up on the last day with a win from behind, at our expense -
It was something like £5m + £3m in add-ons had we stayed up. Mad either way. He had 1 year left on his Palace deal when we signed him too. We signed Coady for £7.5m + £1m in add-ons - he had 2 years left on his deal, was unwanted by Wolves and hadn't been retained after a loan at Everton... Signed Winks for £10m - pretty sure he had 1 year left on his deal - and had been squeezed out of the squad, then out on loan at Sampdoria (relegated) Sure, Winks was great for us for 1 year under Maresca, but they're just crazy deals really

We can’t really set expectations until deep into the window. There’s a huge turnover of players required and it remains to be seen if we’ll be able to shift who we need to, whether we even have money to reinvest in replacements and if we’re going to target new types of signings or stick with the same agent driven ‘strategy’ -
He's not some guaranteed promotion specialist. He's finished mid table or worse in all his jobs bar the Southampton promotion. And do you mean if we go up twice?
-
I hope he goes rogue and gives us tell-all stories. Unlikely though.

Players that are leaving or should be leaving in the summer of '26
Les-TA-Jon replied to MC Prussian's topic in Transfer Talk
Problem we've got is we need a huge rebuild - but the club is so bad as medium term squad building that we're likely to either have far less of a rebuild than we need and/or just be left with the next group of overpaid average players -
Don't think it's quite as simple as that though - given the transition occurred under Puel (great signings) and Rodgers (our best ever football for first 18 months or so?) The club is the pits though, for sure.

Is Dave Challinor even a realistic option? Didn't he leave Stockport by mutual consent? Which suggest he's having a break or something?
