harpendenfox Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 Well the last four games at home we've steadily declined. That relatively bright start against The Posh now seems an eternity ago. The sadness for me today was the quite obvious lack of any team spirit. That's seriously worrying, and something I was quite sure wouldn't be a problem with Nige in charge. So where do we go from here? Well, for me, our strategy has to change. We need to forget promotion this season, and we need to stop thinking we can just buy our way to success. Despite the two goals conceded tody I don't think the defensive five are the problem. I'd relieve Mills of the capataincy, as I don't think he has the requisite personality. I think he's a decent defender though. Then over the next three weeks I'd try and sign three or four of the best players in League One, or from the SPL. Young hungry players with it all to prove. Take Dorrans from West Brom as the benchmark. Perhaps supplement that with a youngste on loan from a top end Prem Club. I'm happy with Nugent's attitude, so I'd concentrate on midfield and an attacking partner for Nuge. We need a midfield dynamo to play behind King (who appears devoid of confidence at the moment, but is, in essence a decent player), and we need one or more wingers. Sorry Lloyd, you were decent today, but I think we need something else. Gallagher, Danns, Wellens, I'm just convinced that any of you are doing enough for me. Forget promotion, and don't worry about relegation. We'll win a few. Our aim is to start playing fast, creative, exciting football, and to take the game to the opposition without fear of losing. Then we build some momentum for next season. We need hunger, and we need pace, and for the record, let's hear no more complaints about the manager, but lets give him licence to build for the future.
Haydos Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 Good post. Every strategy seems a gamble from now on. We brought in decent enough players from this division and below (Mills, Danns, Nugent, Peltier, Schmeichel, St. Ledger, konchesky) and that doesn't seem to have done the trick. That's after people moaned about Eriksson bringing in 'Premiership mercenaries'. Where do you go? League One? Maybe, but more league 1 clubs seem to be rejecting approaches for their players. Take Jordan Rhodes for example (one I wouldn't mind here). Who'd even want to come here at the moment? I know money talks but even that's going to **** us over eventually.
Happy Fox Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 Next step buying players from Holland, Belgium and Sweden.
Guesty Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 I don't think are defence is that bad. I just think the midfield offers no protection. It also offers nothing going forward apart from every now and again 1 player will have a good game like Dyer today or Gallagher will score a wonder goal. But I think most of them are just average championship midfielders. It's unlikely we can replace all of them in Jan so I think we need a mobile target man so at least when we do hoof it someone up there can actually head it and contribute.
THEFATBASTARD Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 pearson is an imposter, always thought so..but people on here will keep sucking his knob..
LCFCstriker Posted 14 January 2012 Posted 14 January 2012 Need to sort the midfield out. Obviously two wide men, a steely CM like Drinkwater from Barnsley today as the current midfield offers no support for the strikers and no protection for the defence.
