I may not be giving to much information but I turn my Laptop on and it turns on fine - Except nothing appears on the screen no matter what I do I can see nowt, As I said I might not be giving to much information for you to tell me whats wrong but I don't know much about computers, as long as they turn on and I can do the basics i'm happy, so from what i've told you can anyone tell my what the problem is? Why it is doing it? And how to fix it? I has happened before but I took to the bloke who sorts out my computer and laptop and he sorted it, but its happened/happening again!

Can anyone help? Cheers in advance for any help given!

Sounds like hardware. Is it under warranty?

Matt, I hope the following is helpful:

1: Have you been using an external screen (monitor) with the notebook? - If so it is possible that output is still set to the external VGA port - To fix, reattach external monitor so you can see what's going on, then switch back to internal LCD (Usually done by a FN shortcut key combination)

2: If your description is 100% accurate then it's not a Windows problem otherwise you would see a BIOS Splash or POST screen before Windows loads - Therefore a hardware fault is possible - There are 3 main possibilities

A: Screen failure - Ouchy - Expensive (unless under warranty)

B: Graphics chip failure - Ouchy - Expensive (unless under warranty) (Usually integrated as part of the mainboard)

C: FL Inverter fault - To explain what an FL Inverter is: Think of a Flurescant light tube - You have the actual tube and a small starter unit - The FL inverter is the screens starter unit - Usually if you have an FL Inverter fault you can see a VERY VERY faint image on screen (If you look really hard) - The FL Inverter could have failed outright or have a lose connection

Other questions:

Do you have sound? - IE Windows startup sound

What make & model is it?

Is it under warranty?

:( Its second hand, I think it had 3 months warrenty but the 3 months is well up...I bought it around January time.

I'm just gonna take it over to the bloke who fixes my PC/Laptop, If its the case its gonna be expensive to fix i'll say forget it, and I might as well either give up and just use my PC or buy new...

Keep us posted Matt

If your mate can't sort it but can determine the fault - I may be able to sort something for you - It will depend on the fault, the make & model

Ever since this thread I have been meaning to take my Laptop over to the bloke who I was on about who fixes my PC/Laptop but I have never got round to it, but today I was bored so decided to have a play with my Laptop see if it would work or see if I could try and fix it, well i've fixed it :):P

I took a panel underneath/at the back off the Laptop off, I then took a chip or something that looked technical out I gave it a blow out, nothing happened, I then plugged me PC monitor into my laptop to see if the laptop itself was ok, I was using my laptop via my PC monitor the next thing I know was my laptop screen turn on, so its fixed its fine and it cost me nothing! :):P

Next problem for someone to help me solve :rolleyes::unsure:

When i'm typing, some letters work, some letters don't (They do work but not aswell as others), then some keys on the keyboard when I press them, letters appear several times, would this be a dodgy keyboard on the laptop(In which case can you somehow replace keyboards on laptops ), or is there any way to stop or slow the keys down somehow?

Cheers for any help given!

Hey Matt - Sounds like you had the output set to external monitor instead of the notebook's own screen? - Can you switch back to the notebook screen now?

The item you removed is possibly a memory So-DIMM? - Bit hard to tell from your description!

As for the keyboard - that does sound like the keyboard maybe knackered - Keyboards can be replaced but you need to have the specific keyboard for your model of notebook - Alternatively you can use an external USB keyboard - Some notebooks also have a PS/2 port for keyboard and/or mouse - This is getting less common though

If you let me know make and model I can get an idea of price of a replacement keyboard - There's also a possibility that I can find a used one in the warehouse which I can blag for nothing

More likely than not the notebook will be toast - but there's always hope

Even if the notebook is Roy Kinnered - The hard drive may still be salvageable - Let me know if you you want me to take a look ;)
