HEGGSY Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 Quite recently our Sky + box got upgraded to the new 1TB memory version, however I've got about 3 series of Hustle that I've recorded on my old box that I am yet to watch. So I was just wondering if its possible to transfer those recordings to a computer/USB drive so I can watch them when I'm out? Has anyone done this before? I've heard the best way is to use a capture card but there not exactly cheap Mods feel free to move this thread into appropriate place
davieG Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 I use one of these to record programmes from my TV/Skybox to my laptop/flashdrive - http://www.cooldrives.com/grxusb20augr.html Don't know how much they are now.

Fox92 Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 I have seen a tool called skycopy+/copy+. It has been featured in 'The Guardian', as well as in 'PCW magazine' and 'What Satellite magazine'. Apparently you use it to back up whatever (in your case Hustle) and then copy it to your new Sky hard drive. I am not sure if you can transfer it to a PC though. And it is free. http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/index.php Not sure if that helps Heggsy, but I am sure it's worth a look at in your situation

How does that work? Do you have to have the DVR playing back the program in real time while you record it to your laptop? Or is it possible to just copy the program file?

Or is it possible to just copy the program file? You have to have the programme, be it a VHS or DVD or TV programme running. If your doing it off a Sky box you don't need the television on. I bought it mainly to copy a load of VHS tapes onto DVDs, so I had to download them to my pc using the grabbeee then burn them to DVDs quite long winded but I found i could copy anything that was running on my TV.

Thanks Davie, I have a separate DVR with a DVD burner on it and it does the same thing. It'd be nice if you could just 'cut and paste' the file from the satellite box hard drive, I guess in theory you can but it would need access to the files.
