The new season starts on the 17th of March, if you havn't been its well worth a trip. Good to have another sport in our city.

Allways been a big fan of speedway and the new Lions track is 5 minutes from my house. Went 5-6 times last season , including the premier league fours final, which was brilliant. I'm going to the meeting on the 17th, former world champion Nicki Pedersen is riding :scarf: , plus gp riders Freddie Lindgren and Kenneth Bjerre.

With the riders we have this season , we should be challenging for the league. Lasse Bjerre is an awesome signing

Went down a couple of times last year and thoroughly enjoyed it despite us losing. Ita great to have something different and you really can't beat the smell at Speedway.

I know, its the nicest smell ever.

Got a good team this year, the first half of last season wasn't the best with riders not wanting to be there but they put a good run together towards the end when they got some class riders in. I can't wait for the new season, gonna be good! Lasse will be good to watch.

I went a few times last season as my Dad was heavily involved there. He was infact, the man that designed the new logo.

The racing was terrible last year and for fall-outs with the promoter, I don't think he'd be allowed back in. Looks as if the Lions have got a half-decent side this year, with Niemenen, Karlsson and Bjerre leading them up-top. Mid-table finish I reckon.

I still have more of an affinity with the Coventry Bees as I've been watching them as there was no Lions team since '83 up until last year.

Wash your mouth out lol!

The same blokes promoter, the first half of last season he was doing that and managing the team which IMO was too much. Plus a couple of the riders didn't want to be there, and one stabbed him in the back. Second half of the season was alot better when they got somebody else in to manage the team.

From Today's Mercury

Leicester Lions could be doing battle with speedway's big guns in the Sky Sports Elite League next season.

Ambitious promoter David Hemsley is exploring the possibility and, if he feels the time is right to step up a level, the likes of Poole Pirates, Swindon Robins, Lakeside Hammers and Birmingham Brummies could be revving around Beaumont Park.

"It has always been my intention to return Leicester to the very highest level of competition which we had in the city in the 1970s and early 1980s," said Hemsley.

"If, after negotiations with the British Speedway Promoters' Association, we find that conditions are right for our club then we will move into the Sky Sports Elite League ready for the 2013 season."

Speedway returned to Leicester only two years ago after an absence of 28 years.

They finished bottom of the Premier League last season but, this time around, have improve dramatically and qualified for the play-offs in the sport's second tier.

Behind the scenes, both Hemsley and co-promoter Alan Jones have been establishing firm foundations for speedway's future in the city, and continuous improvement is a major factor.

Should they take the big step, the Lions will look to considerably strengthen their rider line-up.

"We will search for an out-and-out No.1 who can lead our side forward into the new era," said Hemsley.

"I will endeavour to secure a world-renowned rider, somebody who every person in Leicester will be able to associate with and become a household name like Lineker and Underwood from the football and rugby.

"I know one of the biggest concerns from our fans will be the riders who they have grown an association with.

"Should we make the Elite League, then we shall endeavour to retain a number of the fans' current favourites who would be capable of making a positive name for themselves at the higher level."

As for staging such top-class speedway at Beaumont Park, Hemsley has no doubts.

"Our facilities are more than capable of hosting Elite League speedway," he said.

"Our track has been designed to the very highest standard, something that has been evident this summer with all the poor weather. We were able to ensure that many of our meetings can be run when other tracks were rained off.

"Operating within the Sky Sports Elite League will open up many commercial opportunities for the team, certainly as one of the headline teams next year.

"The Lions will be looking to take full advantage of the opportunities presented to them to ensure a successful year for the club."

Dates have been confirmed for three of the Lions' four play-off dates. The fourth, against Somerset at Beaumont Park, has still to be agreed. Fixtures:

Fri, Oct 5 v Somerset (a);

Sat, Oct 6 v Newcastle (h, 7.30);

Sun, Oct 7 v Newcastle (a, 7.0).

This will be awesome if it happens :scarf:

I was looking forward to seeing the young Polish guy aswell, think he'll be good this year. Expecting Lions to just make up the numbers to begin with this season but hopefully they can push on in the latter half and then for season to come

Lions 44 wolves 46. The only time we were behind was the final heat . Woffinden had a horrible crash in the final race , left in an ambulance
