The defence

  1. 1. What do you think is the MAIN cause of our defensive problems?

    • Personnel
      15
    • Lack of cohesion
      42
    • Other areas of the team that put the back four under pressure

I agree with the post about Kasper. He is a decent shot stopper but he can be hesitant at times.

That is what happens when Mike Stowell is your coach we must be the only club in the country to employ a a goalkeeping coach as attacking coach, surely with the money we have now we can afford a proper coaching set up?

We have 4 defenders that are internationals... they should be good enough to cut it in this league. If they arent, i put it down to not being organised and understanding their role, that, i put down to the manager.

you see, what we should have done was position ourselves better and mark their players more closely

I think NFP has 'issues' with the defence and wants rid of most of it soonest.

Why else would he not address the more obvious problems in a simple and direct way........ :dunno:

For example, stop Peltier from rampaging forward and getting caught out, 'stay in your own half and defend', not hard is it?

And take one of our midfield players (Drinkwater or Danns) and get him to play a deeper role, covering the defense, 'stay deep and cut out the quick counter', once again not hard is it?

Simple fixes for our 2 major weaknesses defensively, but neither have even been attempted......... :nono:

The only ones safe atm in defense is Konchesky and Morgan, the rest I don't think NP is too keen on.

And you base this on.....?

Peltier has concerned me from the start tbh. I saw him for a few games and his positioning seemed very iffy, prone to ball watching as well. I didn't see much of him when people were saying he was our best player so I have nothing to go on. Another one that peoples' opinion seems split on though.

Bamba is the other concern. He seems to have become a worse player. I didn't see him get caught out of position this much last season, although the poor decision making was apparent. Still think he can do a job but if we were to have our current defence next season I would have Mills and St Leger as my starting pair.

I know it's not a massive achievement but sol worked really well in the Africa cup of nations, don't think Ivory coast conceeded, so the quality is there, he just needs a solid partner

How many goals have we conceded from crosses/ set pieces recently? Thats what worries me we seem to struggle with any cross into the box and if it is cleared it only goes a yard out of the box before coming straight back in. Its alright saying we should defend more as a team but its the full backs job to stop crosses and the centre halves job to clear it away from our area to allow the rest of the team a chance to defend higher up, isn't it?.

I haven't seen too many goals conceded by us from one on ones or teams passing through us.
