stripeyfox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_9719000/9719285.stm Two petrol station canopies are to be given listed building status. John Minnis, from English Heritage, told the Today programme that the futuristic designs hark back to a time when driving was still considered an adventure. The forecourt at Markham Moor off the A1 is architecturally innovative, he says, using technology that was "cutting-edge" for the 1960s. The other, on the A6 near Red Hill, is the last surviving forecourt designed for Mobil in the early 1970's.
vandamman Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I have to say this is a bit over the top, the one in Birstall it is barely old enough to be listed, therefore, for it to be considered so soon I would say it would have to have architectural importance on a national level, which I don't think it does. That said I think it is/was an innovative design.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Always reminded me of those Space Ships they have in New York City (in Queens I think) at the end in Men in Black, we also have a statue of Lady Liberty on that roundabout near the KP too! How very Yank
SystonFox Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Congratulations red hill circle you've done a fine job of supplying me with overpriced petroleum in the past. hats off to you
stez Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 I used to like using that petrol station, back in my leicester days. The asda no-needs-to-get-out-of-your-car-to-pay-thru, in grantham just doesn't have the same aesthetic appeal.

stez Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 I usually can't be arsed with driving round to asda. And I get my nectar points at sainsbury's ;-)
