Or there could be an heroic special CIA agent on board the plane who is going to disharm the terrorists after repairing one of the engines after it is damaged by gunfire.

An interesting point, I only ran the London marathon for charity because I didn't get in thought the ballot. I ran for NSPCC but have no connection to them apart from the fact that they accepted me.

They were the only charity I applied for, I have once again entered the ballot for 2013 but if I do not get in I won't apply to charities. My friends have reached their saturation point in their donations and I also don't think it's fair to ask them again (I also ran the Great North Run last year for charity, with a guaranteed spot though).

I dot seethe problem in what I did this year though, I wanted to run and NSPCC got their cash. That said ALL donations went to them, I could never use that cash to fund the travel, hotel, kit etc. I would feel like a right ****.

I wasn't aware people who climbed mountains etc used sponsorship to pay for it and only the surplus went to charity - fvck me that's bad.

I'm massively phobic towards sun, sea, sand, palm trees, cocktails, sun-cream and coco-de-mer. Someone really ought to sponsor me to go to the Seychelles for a month.

I assume there is a minimum amount you have to raise if you are going to run the London Marathon for a charity, how much above the limit did you raise?

Don't get me wrong it's great that you raised say, £1,000 or whatever for charity when you ran the Marathon, but in this case you took the place of someone who potentially could have raised 10 times that amount because they were doing it for the charity. (Realistically you probably took the place of someone else who was only applying to run for a charity because they didn't get in the ballot.)

I'm still not quite there yet, (the limit is £2000) I have a lot of cheques and cash at home to send in yet along with the £400 and something on Just Giving, realisticly I'm about £200 short. I have until July to find it, if not I'll make up the difference up to the £2000, to be honest, I can't really afford it but a promise is a promise in my book, and I agreed to raise it.

I agree with your point about taking up a place that potentially could have been taken up by a millionaire, It's ironic that you mention it really as I thought about this before the race. At one point I was thought that I struggling to raise the cash (I even resorted to asking on here a few times) and I offered the NSPCC their place back to give to somebody else who would have the means to raise it but also to keep the cash I had already raised. I did this on more than one occasion but they said not to worry. There was still about 2 1/2 months to go at this point.

I think that they had spare places left over because one of my friends who was initially rejected by them kept getting calls from them asking him to run. Unfortunately for the two of the he was injured so both missed out.
