LcFc_Smiv Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 I'm in my second year of university studying sports science for performance coaching and have the opportunity to take part in a 6 week placement between march and april. Strength and conditioning has always been an area I'd love to work in, so around this time last year I sent out around 500 emails to various coaches, inquiring about the possibility of a placement with them at their respective establishment. I had plenty of replies the majority of people politely declining, with around 10 or so replies offering me an opportunity. One of these went a bit further than the rest and I have a coach of a university football (soccer) team in america who is happy to take me on, however, march-april isn't the busiest of periods for college football, and I would only be working with the football team while a strength and conditioning role would be preferred For me this placement is something that I really need to get the most out of, I targeted placements in America as the level of strength and conditioning in high schools and colleges is similar to that of an elite level institution. So here's the long shot, is there anyone on this forum who knows of anywhere/anyone who I would be able to contact about a placement within a strength and conditioning environment, whether it be in England, America or anywhere else around the world? Are there any coaches on here who would be able to offer advice? And for those members on here who live in America are there any institutions you would be able to recommend that I try contacting, high schools, colleges, local sports teams, gyms etc? My post on here isn't because I've fallen to my last resort, I'm simply researching a number of possibilities and potentially trying to find the best fit possible for myself, and I've found it is sometimes useful to share things like this on here on the off chance someone will be able to help. Thanks for taking the time to read, and for these members on here that are on the east coast of the America right now, I hope you, your family and friends are safe.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 A mate of mine from uni (Bournemouth) is doing a years placement doing strength and conditioning at Southampton FC. Ill see if I can get hold of him and try and get some contacts out of him for you.

RobHawk Posted 30 October 2012 Posted 30 October 2012 If you are looking at american colleges look at other sports that you may be able to go and work with during that time. If it is strength and conditioning you want to do it doesn't matter if its not a sport you know that well. A bit of research to see what their requirements are and your away. I'm sure a number of sports are played over there as summer sports so may well be looking at strength and conditioning in April!

With regards to strength and conditioning within the college setting, it's usually a department that works with all colleigate sports teams so this is what I'm aiming for. Originially I wanted to work within football, but this is fairly specific, and as you said with strength and conditioning it is a much wider field. Most sports are usually going through their recruitment phase during March-April however with it being the offseason there are a few friendly fixtures and it is heavily training based as far as I'm aware.
