Alf Bentley Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 If you're still craving elusive adventure at 50, maybe it's time you did accept that it isn't going to happen. Because afterall, you've had decades to fulfill that desire, the only thing that has stopped you is yourself. It has already happened - I had plenty of adventures before settling down in my mid-30s. I just want more, you little doom-monger! Having a youngish child and comparatively little money is what is stopping me just now. If future health allows, there's plenty of time for more adventures....I don't plan to take up golf or to move to Surrey. "Get the plank out of your own eye, before you go on about the speck of dust in mine", as my mate Matthew was telling me down the pub... Contrary to what Private Fraser would have you believe, we're not "doomed"...well, only in the long-term!
Houdini Logic Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 I'm largely with Houdini Logic on this one - "long-term commitment" I can just about handle, but "stability" and "routine" are the bane of my life! I was never into fast cars and bachelorhood is over-rated (though it does have its benefits)...but I definitely want more "outlandish adventures" and a lot less routine. I've hit 50 now and can relate to the "fading memory of angst-ridden teens", but my only "mid-life crisis" is hearing friends my age saying things like "you really should take up golf", "I'm moving to Surrey", "I'm looking forward to retirement" and "Oh, I'm too old for that now"...and these are blokes who are physically fitter than me, in the main. "Gonna break out of this city, leave the people here behind; looking for adventure is the type of life to find; tired of doing day jobs with no thanks for what I do; I'm sure I must be someone, now I'm going to find out who... Do anything you wanna do!" [No, that's not a mid-life crisis!] Agree with this - not so worried about the long-term commitment (relationship wise) but certainly don't want the routine. I want the dark, fun, random days in later life that I've enjoyed in my teens and twenties.
Babylon Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 2. Getting married (35 per cent) 35 % of the people asked were also stood next to their mrs when they answered the questions!!!! Coincidence?
Guest MattP Posted 5 November 2012 Posted 5 November 2012 If that's true I can't wait, had an amazing life so far and I'm not even 30. Can't wait for what's ahead of me.
