ACF Posted 23 May 2013 Posted 23 May 2013 I just think that these rules, although well intentioned, will lead to more difficulties than they solve. Clubs won't be willing to pay much, even for good players, which will lead to a lot of frustrating transfer stalemates when it comes to negotiating a fee. It will also become very difficult to offload any bad signings due to no club wanting to pay to take them off your hands. More players will be on the scrapheap too as the bean counters will rule clubs even more now as football decisions get pushed way down the agenda. My other fear is that, like in rugby, the introduction of a 'cap' of sorts will lead to talent staying away from the FL and seeking better financial reward elsewhere. This would lead to a suffocating league of drudgery and mediocrity, even worse than it is now. Genuinely hope that I am wrong, but that is the way I see things heading. Maybe clubs will realise they can't pay over the odds for overrated players, meaning they wont have to struggle to get rid of them. Will also help managers stay with the teams, clubs won't want to be forking out for compensation and rebuilding phases.

That's a good point, but a bit too ideological for football and the way it operates. I'll be the first to admit that I would love us to have a settled manager and squad year on year but by the same token, I also don't subscribe to the fact that we should have stability just for stability's sake. There should be some room for manoeuvre should things go wrong. The last thing we want is to be lumbered with a Peter Taylor-a-like and not be able to afford to change it.
Guest MattP Posted 23 May 2013 Posted 23 May 2013 And, ironically, since the wage cap on english rugby teams, the french rugby teams have prospered due to being unrestricted financially . No co-incedence the French Rugby team got the six nations wooden spoon either when they start replacing home players with talent from all around the World.
