Jordan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Being shown up for the total myth and embarrassing excuse that it is. It really is a joke. This year, we had Chelsea and Man City flying off to play in the U.S. just days after the Premier League season ended. Let the guys have some ****ing rest.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 I'm guessing it will take place in years when there isn't a major international tournament taking place. 2013 - Confederations Cup 2014 - World Cup 2015 - Copa America 2016 - European Championship And repeat.
Guy1960 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Murdoch's done enough to destroy the game... this is one step forward and I for one hope it fails to get off the ground.
Danizen Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 2013 - Confederations Cup 2014 - World Cup 2015 - Copa America 2016 - European Championship And repeat. Well the Confederations Cup isn't a major international tournament and since this proposed tournament will involve European teams, they won't be concerned about clashing with the Copa America.

Do European teams not employ South American players then? Murdoch's issue is that despite the fact there is actually football most summers, he'll never be able to get his grubby hands on it because its protected and has to be on terrestrial TV. Rather than being happy with his lot of having the the most watched league on his channels 9 months a year, most of the champions league, Spanish football, the most watched motor sport world wide, all England cricket, large chunks of tennis etc he's had to invent something else. It's a ridiculous idea. The players deserve some time off in the summer and to be honest it will just be over kill. I love football, but I honestly would not be bothered one bit about watching a club tournament in the summer.

Anyway I think a lot of people only subscribe to Sky for the English season. May be different for the World Cup but if money is tight then cuts have to be made. I doubt I'd pay £20 plus a month for it. Cheaper to go in a pub even if having a couple of coffees or take a bottle of water in.
Dylan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Stupid idea imo... either be very uncompetitive which would just make it like the standard pre-season tournaments you get, or if it was competitive, it'd just take the gloss off the Champions League? And even so, when are players meant to have a rest and break if this happens?!
Danizen Posted 16 June 2013 Posted 16 June 2013 Do European teams not employ South American players then? That's not what I meant. Murdoch would rather accept that every four years, South American players will be unavailable and stage it anyway than not stage it. Unless he could lobby FIFA to change the years to match the European Championships which would be unlikely.
