Fox in the North Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 I'm sure that's called the Champions League.
purpleronnie Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 I'm sure that's called the Champions League. summer?
Leicesterpool Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Talking of which as it ever been discussed to play the champions league in the summer, daft as it might sound it means clubs can concentrate on the league more.
Fox in the North Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 summer? I know, but I'm just saying generally.
Rincewind Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 more money for the big clubs and more expense for fans.
purpleronnie Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 more money for the big clubs and more expense for fans. Fans have a choice.
davieG Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Whatever happened to too many games and the need for a winter break?
Fox92 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Whatever happened to too many games and the need for a winter break? Pretty sure they didn't want that just because Peter Taylor wanted it. Always going against the best!
Rincewind Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Fans have a choice. True pay out for Murdochs exclusive coverage or don't. At least City's prices won't increase because of it.
Webbo Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 World cup? European Championship? I don't suppose they matter.
stix Posted 15 June 2013 Author Posted 15 June 2013 World cup? European Championship? I don't suppose they matter. Not to England they don't. Not really.
Webbo Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Not to England they don't. Not really. I'm English and it matters to me.
Danizen Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 World cup? European Championship? I don't suppose they matter.I'm guessing it will take place in years when there isn't a major international tournament taking place.
stix Posted 15 June 2013 Author Posted 15 June 2013 I thought that too. Maybe every other year. I like the sound of it. If it's in tournament format over say 2-3weeks. Which it won't be, it'll just be money making exhibition games all over the world.
Captain... Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 This already happens to an extent with smaller tournaments in pre-season, I don't think it should be competitive, but an exhibition tournament, show casing the best of football to other countries isn't a bad thing, don't think it should be a 16 team tournament as that is too many matches. What we have now are 7-10 day mini tournaments which are like pre season tours, anything more and it will be too much. Oh and Murdoch is a cvnt so can fvck off.
stix Posted 15 June 2013 Author Posted 15 June 2013 Personally if it's not competitive I don't think it'll be showcasing the best football. If the prize/prestige of the competition is big enough then the club owners would be more inclined to insist their team does well in it. But Murdoch can indeed still fvck right off.
Rincewind Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 I can't afford Sky anyway so don't matter to me. Maybe the clubs should do something to thank the fans for the previous season by screening it at the grounds for a special price.
leicesterisme Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Talking of which as it ever been discussed to play the champions league in the summer, daft as it might sound it means clubs can concentrate on the league more. What happens when it's the Euros/World cup?
Rincewind Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 What happens when it's the Euros/World cup? Like the Baseball World Series? It will be held in America.
Fox92 Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Talking of which as it ever been discussed to play the champions league in the summer, daft as it might sound it means clubs can concentrate on the league more. 'Concentrate on the league more'. Shove that... Clubs in England compete in their leagues, then most compete in the domestic cups as well (JPT, FA Trophy, FA Cup, Carling Cup etc) and then 'the best' compete in the European Cup and Europa League. All played in regular football season, it's what it's about... The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have enough money and have massive depth in their squad that they can compete in all this. They still moan, I know. They don't moan when they're flying all around the World just to play a few friendlies though.
21st Century Fox Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 I assumed it was just for periods like now when there isn't a major tournament scheduled (Confederations Cup excluded) as Sky must have a massive hole in their footballing income. No doubt Sky would use it as some kind of financial leverage over clubs as well, what with having an absolute stranglehold over it. I could see top players burning out a lot quicker and Sky just dominating the sport even more (which is blatantly their long term plan à la F1). I'm sure we'd end up with clubs bending even further backwards for Sky to feed at the trough of this tournament.
Jordan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Like the Baseball World Series? It will be held in America. We already host the "International Champions Cup," the friendly "tournament" hitherto known as the "World Football Challenge."
Dan Posted 15 June 2013 Posted 15 June 2013 Whatever happened to too many games and the need for a winter break? Being shown up for the total myth and embarrassing excuse that it is.
