Zingari Posted 5 October 2013 Posted 5 October 2013 Its really the same thing, albeit perhaps expressed a little differently, I'd argue it is really the perception of the person being criticised, ie whether or not you want to be a victim or not. Clearly if someone is ranting and effing and blinding calling you all the name under the sun, that's different, but generally, when people are really hurt by 'insults' its because its really just some well directed criticism that they didn't want to hear. That's probably just about it . It's how I see it anyway

Yeah, this is true. The problem is everyones definition of either constructive criticism or abuse varies wildly almost by circumstance to circumstance. It's very easy for rudeness/nastiness to masquerade as blunt speaking. Of course though, sometimes someone has to be told something, regardless of how much it may hurt. All a bit nebulous really.
