Hamill Signs

Leicester City have completed the signing of 21-year-old winger Joe Hamill.

Hamill, who made 43 appearances for Scottish Premier League side Hearts last season, has signed a three-year contract with the Foxes and took part in his first training session earlier today (Thursday).

The youngster becomes Craig Levein's eighth summer signing, although the City boss was keen to play down his most recent acquisition.

He said: "We have brought Joe down here with a view to the future and he will initially be something of a fringe player.

"He is very much a raw talent at the moment, but he will add much needed depth to our small squad."

Hamill will be eligible to play in City's Championship clash against Ipswich Town on Saturday should he be selected, and has been handed the number 23 shirt.

So now we have 3 left wingers, but only 1 right winger?

Hmmmm......

True but Wilcox wont be playing beyond this season and Tiatto is not what you'd call a classic/traditional winger. CL said this guy will only be on the fringes of the team so I'd expect him to make more of an impact next season - mind you doesn't affect the fact that we've only got one right winger.

No...

Elvis, Momo, Porter and Hughes played there for quite a few games last season

Maybe they can cover there but that is not their ideal position. Porter is too young, Elvis is a striker, and Hughes is a central midfielder!

Momo is the only right winger we have got in the squad.

Joe is far too lightweight in the spl and will never cope in a league as physical as the championship.

Joe was given a new contract to the disbelief of the majority of us jambos and will not be missed,

he is certainly a confidence player, but is a one trick pony, he can certainly beat a man, the problem is he loses it immediatly afterwards or passes it to the opposition, he is a decent dead ball specialist/crosser but never got a chance at hearts to do so.

He is principally a left winger, but CL has some love for playing a left footed right winger(which certainly didnt help him).

Levein rated him highly- the rest of scottish football didnt, he won't be missed and will be in the conference/non leaugue within 18 months

How many times do managers bring in well known players who are hyped up, then their crap. Then managers get in players no-one has heard of and everyone says what a bad signing, then the players becomes brilliant! Remember MON brought a squad of unknowns, MA brought a squad of old grandad has-beens, LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE!!!

I fully trust Craig - and you should to!

Said this in the other thread. Apart from Momo we dont have any other out and out right winger! I do like the idea of bringing youth in and i think its a good signing but we dont even have an established RW for saturday. Ok, Elvis did ok the other night but when he came on we were in a confortable position, it will be a different story on Saturday. I think he should look at bringing in a short term loan. or, even better, giving Porter the chance in the first team. Despite his age and inexperience if he really wants to make it in the first team he has to start somewhere and he will have to give it his all.

I would play Porter too. I saw him Monday in training (obviously not the same thing as playing a league game, but...), I would give him a go.

joe Hammill is a very good player, or up and coming should i say. On football manager 2005 if thats anything to go by, he seems pretty good with alot of good teams chasing him.

He is going to be here for next season really, much like Gilbert and some of the other youngsters. However i would like to see him play some part in this season and am keen to see how he will respond.

The Leicester team seem to be shaping up very nicely too.

PS Cant wait for Ipswich, gonna be off the hook!!

If he has the ability to beat a man and can potentially put in a decent ball, then I'm sure the rest of his game can be worked on. The elements to be a winger are already there based on that view of him.

If he was rarely given a chance on the left wing (Which is supposedly his position) then maybe Hearts fan have a distorted view of him?

I've never seen the lad play, so I can't say whether that's the case or not.

There are always players who are cack at one club, but great at another. Hopefully Hamill is one of them.

I have to agree with ferry jambo here, you've bought a dud!!

Hamill has been around the 1st team for a while now and never really secured his name to the team sheet every week. He is very lightweight, couldn't tackle a fish supper and I really doubt very much whether he'll survive in the Championship. :(

Sorry guys!! :(

I thought we'd done with signings, so this has taken me by suprise - dunno about you guys.

I think it's good we've got ourselves a left winger, as our current options aren't too hot, or too long term - Wilcox for example, and Tiatto is rather short term - one or two games a month before he's suspended for another 3 games lol

Should we worry about our right wing? Momo shouldn't be out for too long, and I think we have cover from the centre if we're really stuck for a player so unless we're hit by a stack of injuries to our midfielders, I think we will do alright. If Momo picked up a longer term injury, two months out or so, then we should bring someone in on loan - other than that our current team should suffice.

Good luck to the guy, hopefully you Jambo's are proved wrong ;)

ALthough he is a left winger I wouldnt expect him to play there!

Levein was the one who continually played him down the right(even though we had natuaral right sided players)

Joe doesnt have the physique or bottle and those of you who think your getting an upcoming young player are sadly mistaken

Very possibly,

he is welcome to take weir, wyness and simmons! :D

levein came at a time where a lot was going on personally( he was cheating on the wife with an allsports rep and got punted) , he is now back with the wife so homesickness could be playing a part, as levein has always been close to his home
