hairy Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 why should golf be subsidised by the taxpayer at all ? I would rather that than the huge sums that go into the Curve
Zingari Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 I would rather that than the huge sums that go into the Curve Yes I totally agree , but that choice is no longer available is it ? That money has now gone . We ought to have made them more accountable for their spending at the time , but we didn't , and now it's hard times for everyone regarding budget cuts and spending . Maybe we can learn from this and question our councils and governments profligate ways at the time . Councils and governments have overspent on many things and now they've got to rein in , so I really can't see why golf courses etc should be ringfenced from the cuts . I'd love to see it saved , but the reality is, cuts now need to be made and there are going to be some hard choices, and I doubt if golf courses are many people's top priority to treasure at this time. Sad situation it's true , but austerity measures means just what it says on the tin. It's no use for us applauding coucils and governments for making cuts to the most vulnerable in society and at the same time whingeing about minor inconvenience of paying a bit more for a round of golf at another course is it? Anyway , that's me done on this , it's not going to keep me awake at night if it closes as i really think there are much more important things to spend my community charge on . I seem to get precious little for my (near on) £2,000 a year council charges and i don't want it increased to save stuff like Weggy Park pitch and putt .(although this is a just hypothetical point for me because i don't live actually in Leicester ) Hopefully the situation can be resolved to some satisfaction and it can remain open without reliance on taxpayer as i do understand the importance of facilities such as these , even if i don't want them myself . All of us need to face harsh realities and priorities though
Smudge Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 I can't understand why they aren't looking to the golf community industry for help, the place needs investment and promotion.

I phrased that wrongly I meant the industry, whatever the PGA is in the UK etc. Maybe Arnold Palmer, Robert Trent Jones or Jack would like to design a new layout.

You kissed that goodbye with the 'equality laws' that were enforced on them. If you want rich people to fund public sporting own clubs don't tell them who they can and can't have in it.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 March 2014 Posted 19 March 2014 I know a guy who dropped a turd in the bunker on the 14th once as well. My mate dropped one in the bushes of the 11th tee
