I remember a year or two ago, Swansea won their opening two, received plaudits as to how well they'd progressed then lost their next 6.

Poor runs happen to all teams outside the uncatchable elite couple.

If every side changed their manager based on snapshot that is a short run things would be even more of a joke than they are.

Many people predicted 0-2pts from the opening 5 games and that we'd pick up more points in the following 5... All that's happened is that it's been reversed, we're still pretty much exactly the same off.

The next 3 games are key, we need to be competitive Vs Southampton & pick some points up in that run of games.

Would the people who sack a manager after a couple of game run award him a 10 year contract after sticking 5 past Utd? No, both are just as reactionary

Pearson showed what he can do, last time he wasn't sacked during a much worse run.

During Swansea's bad run you reference, the difference being during that time, they kept their mantra and it was clear to see they had quality and were a heartbeat away from getting results. We look nowhere near capable of getting results and I cannot define our style of play whatsoever which is one of the most alarming things.

You are right that Pearson showed some metal to turn it around, but there's a massive difference turning it around at the top of a division than turning it around at the bottom.

yep we just need a spark. but at the moment it's like trying to light a bifter with a broken lighter. no spark whatsoever. we need a new lighter.

As I have mentioned before on here, when we lost to Barnsley three seasons ago, I was calling for NP's sacking - I wasn't too disheartened when he went the first time, I have got to be honest because his football then bored me but I think since he has come back he has changed his style and it is one I enjoy watching on the whole. Reading what Bettsj2 has said reminds me of my feelings then and I completely understand where Bettsj2 is coming from but I also agree with what Geoff has said and a few others. It's that fine balance we need to strike.

On the one hand, we give him further opportunity to improve and as before, I have no doubts he would come through the other side. Then, again, should we lose to Southampton I can imagine the rumour mill will go wild again and it would be a sixth consecutive game without a win. Not to draw too heavy a comparison, but Taylor I think was sacked after not winning 6 games at the start of that god-awful season (okay what followed wasn't much better) but it has happened before and no doubt could happen again. Nevertheless, Vichai and Aiyawatt seem to be good people and will do what is right for the club - which includes the security of their investment and our happiness as fans which is to keep top flight football.

Let's hope common sense prevails for everyone concerned...all we need to do is rediscover that winning feeling again and we won't look back!

There's only one game we've been woeful in & that was Swansea, the rest we've been in them all.

The performance Vs WBA was much improved & barring a freak occurance everyone would acknowledge that.

What needs to happen is that regain that extra impitus that saw us promoted in record breaking fashion and bloody the nose of Arsenal, Utd, Stoke away & make even Chelsea work hard for a win in their own back yard.

As I've mentioned elsewhere I don't think the tactics are spot on to get the results we did & that players returning from injury have settled in & indeed have disrupted what we had.

Time will tell whether Pearson will do well or not in the top flight and as I said last season as long as we aren't disgraced in relegation I'd keep Pearson even if we were to go down.

There's nothing to be gained by not supporting the management & playing squad & everything to lose. I think people sense of entitlement that we'd somehow be way better off than practically a point per game bizarre.

That's not to say we don't need to improve on the moderately better WBA performance & make it a much better one in the next few games.

I think we'll be on the end of a spanking against S'ton unless Pearson sorts his tactics out & the players respond with a never say die performance level we had become accustomed to

Weren't we pretty poor against Newcastle and Palace? Yes, in the game, but never looked like really winning them? Or did I get that wrong?

You are 100% correct.

I also don't think we ever looked like winning against WBA either. By the time we looked like we might threaten, we were already 1 - 0 down.

Just 1 goal from anywhere could kickstart our season again. 1 goal gives us the confidence for another, if we're confident, we will chase lost causes more, we will win more lost causes. Team will be afraid of making mistakes, which puts them under pressure, which we capitalize on... 1 goal
