I know its been a pretty crappy few weeks. How long ago does the Man United win feel?

But i really don't think its panic stations.... just yet,

We haven't been getting hammered by anyone. there's only been a goal or 2 in all the previous losses which says one thing to me "We aren't far from turning this around" Luck does come in to it. I think if we would have scored an early goal against West Brom it would have been a completely different story. I really just think we need a win in any fashion from anywhere at the minute just to get us back on track.

Nigel is the man to take us forward and don't forget didn't most people say finishing 17th would be a result for us this season? You don't have to win that many games in a season to actually do that.

Lets get behind the manager and team and make The King power a fortress.

As Pearson says, above all else we must be competitive... There's only really the Swansea game we haven't been competitive in and we turned that around Vs WBA.

Barring James' suicidal lunge Vs Burnley we'd be in a far better position.

I'm a bit perplexed as to why we've stopped defending deep & in numbers and hitting teams on the counter which we did to good success Vs the likes of Everton, Stoke, Arsenal & almost Chelsea too.

Now that we're playing more attacking we're shown to lack that bit of quality needed that remains hidden when you play like we did prior the freak outlier that was the Utd game, when we played the ball up to Ulloa who played others 'in' and we looked extremely dangerous, not that we're attacking in a possession rather than counterattacking style we don't have the quality and have lost that edge we had.

Fans have a huge part to play though & the last thing the team needs is venom from the fans which results in snatched passes and loss of possession

Staying positive here. 1st year back was always  going to be a struggle. Still got a team more then capable. Just need to turn up on the day with a bit more desire to win.

This topic makes sense. Let's not go overboard. It was always going to be tough. Still believe there's a good side there somewhere. Up the Citeh!

We have to take our chances when they come. Played ok Saturday against West Bromwich I thought and apart from the freak own goal would probably have got a point.

I think looking in the longer term, it could even take two promotions to get established. By which I mean, even if we go down this season, having not overstretched ourselves financially we should be in a strong position to bounce straight back and be in a much better state.

Having said that I think we'll be fine but I don't understand the desire to sack NP. The two cretins who sit behind me were spouting this crap all game on Saturday. Moan moan moan. Why don't you find something else to do on a Saturday afternoon if it p1sses you off that much!!!

Posted

no need to panic just yet, we still have team selection/formation problems but NP has sorted similar problems previously so give him a chance

I said last season we needed 2 points/game average to total 90 points and therefore have a great chance of promotion

This season a total of 37 points would see us be in contention with a chance of staying up, that converts to an average of 1 point/game. Up till WBA we were on target, we are now behind it but we mustnt let this average get out of our reach

Is there any need to panic .........

Stuttering over the last month yes in the cold light of day we've had a og at west brom freekish goal at Newcastle and last kick goal against burnley

All it needs is a spark and were on a roll

Agree or disagree

Posted

yep we just need a spark. but at the moment it's like trying to light a bifter with a broken lighter. no spark whatsoever. we need a new lighter.

I've said it before - we and about 8-10 others will be in a relegation battle all season. Yes, NP has got some thinking to do about personnel and formation - they're learning on the job in a higher division.

Do you get to talk to your colleagues.much?

Whats the general concensus about us and teams around us or is it too early for that?

When I've mentioned to journalistic colleagues (as well as supporters of other clubs) that a vocal minority of our fans think we should make a managerial change, they all think that would be utterly ridiculous. Pretty much everyone agrees that we and several others are much of a muchness and if we're on the right side of the fine margins we should be okay.

yep i think its defo a very very small minority who'd contemplate pearson sacking and like in other threads we are in an elite group of crap teams just trying to be 3 clubs ahead of the worst!!!

Panicking is not solely based on our points gained and position. It's how we are playing that is usually the acid test.

I remember when we had that awful run last time under Pearson. 'Stop panicking'! was written on here numerous times 'look where we are in the table'!

Of course, somehow we still made the play offs and the rest is history. The truth of that season, however, was that we completely cocked up the best chance we had had for automatic promotion, in many years.

Last season, of course, was so great that it covered up the chance thrownaway during the previous campaign. People essentially forgot.

No, what worries me now is not the league position. With the start we had, I expected us to be 17th... its how we are playing. We are looking disjointed. We don't know our best side. Most importantly, we don't look like scoring. Unlike during the bad run of a couple of seasons ago, we are now playing better opposition too.

The rot must stop this time..and quick!

I do understand what you are saying. and i agree that the performances are more worrying that the results. I honestly think its just a slump were in at the moment. Think the international break could be our savoir.

Great post. Agree with all of that

The problem is what puts you on the right side of the margin? I dont think Nigel Pearson knows and he appears to be too stubborn to entertain the thought that he's getting it wrong.

I dont accept the learning factor. He has fundamentally the same squad so knows them inside out. Their strengths and weaknesses etc. Yet it seem obvious to all that he's playing to the latter.

How long do we give him to learn his lesson? Another 5 games? Another 10?, 15? He's showing no signs of control and calmness. All he's exuding at the moment is panic and it's definitely filtering through to the players.

I'm staying positive till January 1st 2015

If we are in the bottom 3 by then I want a change of personnel.....

I think thats fair enough..

Problem is people said after Burnley, 'it's only 7 games' then after Newcastle, 'its only 8 games' and then after Swansea, 'its only 9 games' and now after WBA 'its only 10 games'.

In the last paragraph of my previous post I asked the question, 'how many games is enough?' I dont see why we owe Pearson anything. All he's done is show disrespect to us all and coupled with the awful results of late and the nonsensical lineups, I cannot see how anyone can still be defending him.

I'd love someone to answer that..

Another eight games takes us to the New Year when January comes around. If we are in a worse position then I think they will make a change.

Six weeks ago he was wonderful, now he should be sacked. That's how quickly things change. Contrary to popular belief, Pulis the Saviour bored the Stoke fans near the end of his reign and had several defeats with Palace and games without scoring.

Do we sack each manager when they have five bad matches? We'll be going through a fair few in the future.

I think you miss the point.

It isn't just the 5 games. We look clueless. The manager is changing personnel and formations every game and it's just not happening. We've not looked like winning for a while now and are starting to look like we have no identity or style of play. Then the manager gets irate and is too stubborn to admit he got it wrong, and instead blames the attitude of his players..

He hasn't brought any real premier league experience in bar a 36 year old crocked centre back and with each passing game the early season form is just looking like a buoyant championship club up for the big boys..

It's fizzled out and we look every bit relegation at the minute. I wouldn't wait 18 games, I'd give him 3 more to get a win, they are big games for us in QPR, Sunderland and Southampton.

What he means by 'its not just the 5 games' is (and its certainly what I mean), that losing games is one thing but losing in the manner that we are, coupled with inconsistent formations, lineups and complete disrespect for the fans, makes for not a very pretty picture indeed.

When the writings on the wall, you either clean it off or keep reading it. I'm in favour of the former.

I remember a year or two ago, Swansea won their opening two, received plaudits as to how well they'd progressed then lost their next 6.

Poor runs happen to all teams outside the uncatchable elite couple.

If every side changed their manager based on snapshot that is a short run things would be even more of a joke than they are.

Many people predicted 0-2pts from the opening 5 games and that we'd pick up more points in the following 5... All that's happened is that it's been reversed, we're still pretty much exactly the same off.

The next 3 games are key, we need to be competitive Vs Southampton & pick some points up in that run of games.

Would the people who sack a manager after a couple of game run award him a 10 year contract after sticking 5 past Utd? No, both are just as reactionary

Pearson showed what he can do, last time he wasn't sacked during a much worse run.
