Filbert Walker Posted 18 December 2014 Posted 18 December 2014 I was listening to the Met's chief Police officer yesterday and he made the following comments.... there are 43 police services in England and Wales....this needs reducing to 9 regional services... straight the way millions are saved by getting rid of duplication (sorry Simon Cole you and your highly paid assistants & deputies have to go!... domestic cleaning market calling???)... 9 wages centers, 9 IT sections, 9 HR departments, 9 uniform purchasing centers... etc etc... This he mentioned would free up money for more efficient front line services (Bobbies on the beat!) ...get rid of back room staff that are duplicated 43 times!!!! Anti Terror policing would be more efficient between services.... Finally he said that anyone who says this is not good for local communities is purely trying to save their "empire"... local policing would be the same if not better as more money would be available ... I think this sound great... it ticks the boxes for better service to the public.... BUT i bet Simo C and his gang wouldn't want to give up their 6 figure salaries so they would spin against it beyond belief.....
Webbo Posted 18 December 2014 Posted 18 December 2014 The police have the power of arrest and detention, they choose what to investigate and who to target. That sort of power shouldn't be concentrated in the hands of a few. Back office stuff can be pooled without creating these super forces.

You'd find the guy at the top would be on a 7 figure salary and would have an army of 6 figure salary subordinates each with their own little enclave of workers They'd be further away from the front line and know even less of what happens there. Sharing common facilities and specific resources is a better way to go with a number of specialists units covering larger areas

Parafox Posted 18 December 2014 Posted 18 December 2014 Take our regional ambulance service, East Midlands Ambulance Service. It includes Leics, Notts, Northants, Derby, LIncs. A vast area. As a result of regionailastion we rarely see a manager or get proper support for issues or problems. All communication is faceless by email or "bulletins". As staff we feel undervalued and alone. The budget is HUGE for the whole region, well in excess of the combined individual budgets for each former service. It has resulted in fewer senior managerial posts but ultimately the centralisation of things like HR, Admin and training, has failed and is being devolved out again to local "divisional HQ's". So we go almost full circle but wit a centralised budget. Doesn't really work for us.

Collibosher70 Posted 18 December 2014 Posted 18 December 2014 totally against it..always against people/departments that have to shut down/lay people off..whilst the person who thought of this gets a whacking bonus and the politicians implement these changes give themselves a better pay rise.
Parafox Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 and by all accounts the actual front line ambulance service is awful and worse than it ever was. We do our best with what we have, we're under extreme pressure to deliver on target times but our resources have not been added to in real terms.

I don't think anyone bar the odd hiccup blames the frontline staff somethings are just too big and senior management loses touch with what's really happening, they’re just blinkered towards balance sheets and have little idea of the contribution made by their employees. I've twice been involved in redundancy situation where some has been made redundant and re employed with in werks because there was no one still there who could legally do their jobs
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 The police force wastes money, and in other news grass is green and flies fly.
