Market Harborough has been named one of the top 50 best towns and suburbs to live in by a national newspaper.

The accolade comes in part three of The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide, which is published on Sunday.

The annual supplements combine data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance.

And the newspaper's ranking of the town has received a resounding thumbs up from the people who live and work there.

Helen Campbell, head of PR for the Ideal Marketing Company, in Union Wharf, said:"We have been based here for 11 years and lived in the area for 18 years after relocating from London.

"We are surrounded by great countryside, we're 20 minutes from Leicester and an hour on the train to London.

" There is a thriving business and general community spirit here and we're very happy to live and work here."

Mother of two grown up children Maureen O' Malley, said: "I was born and bred here and I've never wanted to leave so I absolutely agree entirely with the findings.

"I have travelled extensively in the UK but it's always nice to come back to Harborough. I love the rurality of it, with easy access to lovely countryside and places like Foxton Locks.

"There are plenty of facilities and it's a lovely place to bring up a family. If you want to go further afield, you're not far from the M1 and London's not far away on the train - it's just very well placed."

Harborough district councillor Phil Knowles who has lived in the area for 33 years, said: "Market Harborough is a wonderful place to live with a lively community spirit and a genuine welcoming attitude to people who come to visit the area for the many attractions we have."

The Sunday Times Best Towns and Suburbs to Live is the third in a four part series in partnership with Zoopla.

Parts one and two focused on rural idylls and the coolest city locations, while part three on Sunday (15) and looks at the most attractive towns and suburbs which offer the best of both worlds.

The locations were selected for combining desirable features such as a positive community spirit, good local shops and services and attractive outdoor spaces.

Home editor Helen Davies said: "The UK is home to some fantastic cities and idyllic countryside, and most of us want easy access to both urban excitement, and rural tranquillity."

That'll be more London types moving up here and gleefully lending their support to the Tigers while shunning their local football club then...

Against Modern Harborough.
