  1. If my Dads mate did that he'd have had some 5 putts in his career, he putts from some ridiculous places. Definitely a wedge and you see him walking out with his putter and you think "no chance". Inevitably miles short. But you've already had the answer I'd give to the question!
  2. I can definitely relate, all I can say is when I have these days, my thoughts after are "I can feel a good round coming". It might take a little while to actually come out but its definitely coming. I'm in one of those moments now, you just look back at where you've made the odd stupid mistake or not quite chipped it close enough there or holed enough putts and it impacts your score. There's loads of times I've hit the ball well and scored poorly, be that putting poorly or just generally not making the most of scoring opportunities. Some days the hole is like a bucket other days you can't buy a putt. It's just golf. This weekend I shot 74 (+3) with 35 putts. Didn't hit it particularly close to any hole, had a couple of 1 putts, couple of 3 putts. Just a good, but not quite, day.
  3. There are many issues but we are not helped by losing Rehan to be the IPL waterboy. No disrespect to Rehan at all by the way, it is just frustrating seeing that talent doing nothing out there whilst he could definitely do something for us!
  4. Quality. Keep yourself out of trouble at any level (low, mid or high handicap) and you'll score better. Hit as many GIR as possible. Something my coach talks about and something I'd love to try is playing with no pins. Objective is just hit every GIR, law of averages says you'll hit one close and see what you score for 9 holes... Maybe one day!
  5. Played as good as I have for months in today's comp, I get to the bar and the first guy I speak to beat us by 3. Bubble burst.
  6. Purely depends on how firm the greens are, not how deep the rough is. PGA level rough these guys get out of no trouble, US Open level rough though and it is a different story.
  7. Its a PGA, not a US Open, the PGA Championship standard rough won't be a major factor to these guys. Whether the course is firm and fast or playing soft will be the bigger impact. If its firm and fast, you'll likely run out of the fairways into the rough and granted it'll be trickier to control spin from the rough than from the fairway. But if its soft, it won't matter as it'll stop on the greens anyway. Firm and fast fairways and greens are by far the bigger impact than the rough at a PGA. Rough at a US Open? Different story entirely as they like stupidity and making the pros suffer.
  8. If you listen to the players interviews, they think quite the opposite. Takeaways: 1) Fairways are relatively narrow so you're going to miss them, even the most accurate will 2) Therefore might as well hit bombs 3) Hitting out of the rough from 100 yards is better than 160/170 from the fairway. Watch Decade/Scott Fawcett on strategy if you're into your golf, will change your views entirely.
  9. Basically the English love beer, beer, more beer and food, got it. Who'd have thought!
  10. If he plays well enough to warrant it, no guarantees, he's in the best 12 I'd say but... We could definitely field 12 without Rahm to beat the US: McIlroy Fleetwood Rose Macintyre Lowry Hatton Fitzpatrick Hovland Aberg Straka Noren Hojgaard Got big expectations of Penge to come on this season, Alex Fitzpatrick too now he's got a PGA tour card and started so well. Aaron Rai never seems to quite get a look in, bit of a bridesmaid, same as Matt Wallace. I think Adare Manor might come too soon for him but watch out for Angel Ayora, could be the next Spaniard in the Ryder Cup ranks, a proper player.
  11. Agreed, they are lovely. I go fairly regularly and they treat you so well, it is pricey but happy to support that business rather than a chain.
  12. Golf is a stupid game. Index 1 hole, good drive, horrible bounce and it sticks up on a side slope... ball way above my feet, hit a beauty of an iron shot and left it 1 inch short of the hole from 158 yards. All came crashing down as I've smashed one into the trees and made double up the next. Lesson tomorrow, hopefully find some much needed consistency!
  13. Not sure I've ever seen a miss like that one from Mark Allen, wow.
  14. Rose struggling big time, currently tied last. I really want to be proved wrong but can't help but feel this is a costly mistake.
