dan_84 Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 different people are saying different things concerning our left sided problem now that Tiatto is out. Just wondering what people think.
TrickyTrev Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 We have other piroities other than ousting Jordan Stewart. I think we should get in aplayer who can play both roles, like Stewart, Tiatto and Wilcox can. Rembereriing we still have Canero who can play either left back or full winger. I am finding it hard to think anyone who fits the description and would be realisally available.
Scow Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 Jamie Clapham and Martin Grainger are not first team regulars at Birmingham at the minute. Then there's Jim Brenann at Norwich, who can play left back or left wing. Saying that, I don't know whether Grainger or Brennan are injured a present.
TrickyTrev Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 Is Brennan the one that used to play at Forrest because I liked the look of him. Grainger alwys struck me as a player who looks good in highlights packages, because he stikes a good ball but was not the most reliable either defencively or in possession. I would love Clapham to come here but I can't see that happening.

Mark Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 Clapham? No thanks Jim Brennan would do very nicely, he must be injured if he can't get in Norwich's team though.
TrickyTrev Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 He will be available and I suspect his signature will be hotly contested amongst a host of championship clubs. Whether Levein will be itnerested with Gillespie appearing to have nailed down the right midfield slot i do no know, I certainly hope he is.
chambo_9 Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 i think Alan Sheehan from the academy shud play left back and Stewart left mid. Sheehan is only 17 but i think he would be able to handle the championship. if u saw one of his tackles am sure he wud become a city favorite he trains with the first team regulary i think but he just aint broke threw yet!

Set pieces aren't that bad either, well what i've seen of them.
Anish Posted 21 December 2004 Posted 21 December 2004 I'd rather see us bringing in a left-midfielder. Stewart is playing reasonably well defensively and hasn't let us down in that department, but I haven't been impressed with him at all going forward. He gets the ball stick in his feet too often when running at defenders, and he tries to do too many fancy tricks which usually don't pay off either. And his support play hasn't been as good as it was a few years ago.

davieG Posted 22 December 2004 Posted 22 December 2004 Like it or not Stewart has made rthe leftback position his own for this season. I can't see CL moving him unless the only loanee he can get is a left back. I think he'd prefer not to make any unecessary changes, there are bigger problems elsewhere in the team than at left back, like an aged central defence (his first choice being Dublin & Keown), a midfield that can't create and defend in the same game and strikers that can't score, to name but a few.

Central mdifield and a new striker would be my priorities.
Craig Posted 22 December 2004 Posted 22 December 2004 I say we try and get Rogers back 48733[/snapback] I say you sit down and shut up
Bert Posted 22 December 2004 Posted 22 December 2004 Except for the Preston Cup game (when he gave a pen away) Stewart has bin excellent in defence for us this season although IMO i think his tackling isn't the greatest and the lad HAS believe it or not got the ability to be a good winger, skill,(anyone see in the 2nd half against Forest, with his little showboat??) pace and flair etc. i tihink we should get a left back in on loan ( someone like Ben Thatcher- no nonsense type who aint scared to go in for a tackle) and play Stewart left back. but again thats just my opinion.
Scow Posted 22 December 2004 Posted 22 December 2004 I think Ben Thatcher has been injured, but there is no way he would come back here. He did leave for a reason.
TrickyTrev Posted 22 December 2004 Posted 22 December 2004 Stewart does not have the ability to beat a man on a consistent basis and plays with his head down too much to be a winger. He seems to make very few mistakes as a winger and is an asset in the air and in the tackle. He just seems a far more competent full back than he is winger to me.
MON Posted 25 December 2004 Posted 25 December 2004 Micky should never have let him go. However i think play Stewart left back. Bring in Richie Partridge on loan.
