Scow Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 When I start my engine, after a couple of minutes it cuts out. I restart the engine and then it's fine. With me being a student, which means I'm lazy, I can't be arsed to ask a garage about the problem. My brother thinks it might to do with my spark plugs and that they may need changing.

Quick answer = stop being a lazy student and get your ass to the garage!
stez Posted 18 May 2008 Posted 18 May 2008 take a spark plug out and post a picture of it on here that'll tell me wheher it's running rich/weak the plugs are fvcked or any number of other things. could be timing, check the oil dipstick, make sure the oil is oil coloured, not white and emulsion-like. also pop some redex © in the tank, you could have a mucky carburettor
JadeFalcon Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 could be dirty air filter or fooked up MAF, telling us what car it is and wether its petrol or diesel would be helpfull aswell also does it idle well ? or does the rev counter keep going up and down when no foot on accelerator
Durnerz Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 I had a similar problem mate, it was an electrical fault on my car, does it cut out on you when you brake from 50-30mph say? Id get it to a garage mate.

It sounds knackered. Terminally dead. You need to be buying a 2003 Fiat Punto, 1.2 16v active sport (cheap insurance!) that is mint, has never gone wrong and has alloys etc..... I happen to know someone who needs to sell on ASAP!!! (Me). Check autotrader....they're going for £3200-3800. This one is yours for £2750!!!! Or anyone else who is interested can PM me. Daggers Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 Mods:- Have I successfully worked around your advertising rules?? I think you should be selling it on Ebay and also selling a Tigers shirt in order to get around the ban.
AoWW Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 In a blatant hijacking of this thread does anyone know how to get the gas-lift boot struts out? Mine are knackered - won't 'lift' the boot anymore - but there's a place on t'internet you can send them that'll re-gas them... much cheaper than the garage option. Only prob is I need to get the struts out and it doesn't appear to be as simple as I first imagined (e.g. brute force and swearing at 'em didn't work). Any clues? (oh, it's a Citroen Xsara Coupe if that helps!)

AoWW Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 All of the above I shall tell him he is required to assist a damsel in distress, he loves to play the hero Ahh, I've perfected the whole 'damsel in distress' routine. Thank you muchley.
Katy Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 Ahh, I've perfected the whole 'damsel in distress' routine. Thank you muchley. No worries, when I told him he haha but he'll do it or we'll gang up on him and he won't like that.

(oh, it's a Citroen Xsara Coupe if that helps!) Usually it's a spring clip (you push it in from either side and bingo, it comes off), so you might want to accost him with 2 screwdrivers. The important thing to remember is either to bring a friend to hold the boot, or find a big stick to prop it with, or when you take the strut out OWWIE!!!

AoWW Posted 19 May 2008 Posted 19 May 2008 been there! like trav sez, it'll be a clip of some sort that'll need pulling out while you withdraw the strut off the (usually) ball joint err, yeah. (Gimme a break, I'm blonde and female - wayyyyy too technical... that just sounds painful.) Oh, and my boot comes helpfully supplied with a large stick to prop it up with anyway. Trust me, the hatchback weighs a fvcking tonne. Psst, when (if...? - pwetty pleaseeee) you take 'em out, can you show me how I get 'em back in again, please? Might be kinda useful.
