davieG Posted 14 February 2010 Posted 14 February 2010 Former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Paul Dickov has joined Toronto FC on trial. The 37-year-old was released from his contract with English Championship team Leicester City earlier this month. Dickov arrived at the Reds' training camp in Bradenton, Florida on Saturday afternoon. "I know Mo Johnston and have been over here with Toronto FC before and was impressed with what I saw," Dickov told Toronto FC TV. "The last time I came here I was very close to signing, but decided at the time it was best to stay in the Championship in England. Obviously there is now a new manager so I have come out here for a few days to join in training and hopefully we can sort something out." "The big thing for me now is that I feel fit. I wasn't fit properly for the last year or so but I have had an operation on my back and now I feel as fit as I have done in the last six or seven years." Dickov started his career at Arsenal and won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup with the Gunners in 1994. He went on to have successful spells with Manchester City, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers. He was capped at international level by Scotland and made ten appearances for the national team scoring one goal.
ozleicester Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 I guess at least it means we wont see him in the Hyundai A league here in OZ
purpleronnie Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Great, another ex leicester player I'll be able to watch.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Hope he does well there, I'm suprised that he didnt join a lower team in England though.
purpleronnie Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 He'll probably get more money, plus Toronto sell out their 20,000 stadium every week, which i would think would be better to play in front of. Hope he does well, but not against Houston.
