Went something like: Tuffers was playing at Lords against i think Northans who were 8 down going into the last day about to lose. Middlesex took a wicket at the start of play and could not get out the last man. Ray had sometning planned for later that night and there was roadworks on the M1. Middlesex could not get the last wicket as lunch approached. Tuffers was told by Ray to make sure he appealed if he hit the pad. Hit the pad missing and looked at the umpire who glared at him so he asked howzat. Ray shot the finger up and was off the pitch and on the road with his Mrs before he reckons the players got off the pitch. In fairness both him and Agnew spoke very highly of him, a character and in fairness a decent umpire
