I do think Enzo has a style he wants to adopt, in the inverted wingbacks and the box midfield. The issue is, you need players of a certain type to do that. Doyle was a massive loss. We don’t have a squad of players to play this style fluidly. Players will either adapt or be replaced. Puel, Pearson, Shakespeare and Ranieri actually built a good squad of players. Rodgers had us playing some blistering football with those players which was possession based. The last 18 months, however that was down to his and the clubs awful recruitment. Oh, he was an annoying **** as well.

The reality is, we’ve fallen from our previous place in the pyramid. Harmensan, Faes, Ricardo, KDH, Mavadidi, Fatawu, Coady, Winks, McAteer, Cannon, Stolarkzyk, Justin and Choudhury will most likely be here next season. That leaves nearly 10 squad places we’ll need to fill from new players, or potentially re-sign (Ndidi or Vestergaard). Those signings need to first team players though, improving the starting XI.

We’ll get torn apart once we play competent teams playing like we currently do. It’s not until you come down and you realise that football has levels. The Premier League is truly elite and the top half teams are better than most teams in the world.
