I think the difference between us and teams like Blackburn and Norwich is depth. Teams in this division have good players. Some have a good defence or attack, but few are good all over the pitch. We’re fairly solid right through the team, which means that we can absorb other teams good spells. We also have players on the bench who’d start for most sides at Championship level. The biggest threat to our success this season is injuries. First Doyle and now McAteer. Losing a few of our better players would be a great leveller for other teams. I’m just hoping that we have a bit of luck this season. We’re overdue after two or three seasons of a horrendous injury list.

Who is this Amartey guy who's playing for us? -
Southampton fans are all doom and gloom. Leeds fans are talking like they expect to win the league. A Southampton win today would make it interesting as both teams would then be on exactly the same number of points

It’s a funny one with Rodgers. Teams do seem to improve initially when he comes in. It’s only when he starts coaching in earnest and bringing his own players in that everything turns to shite

Edit: “We, ourselves, had a terrible start under Sousa (5 from 9 I think) and ended up in the play offs once NP returned.” You curtailed my post early. What I said is still factually correct. It just took a season or two longer than I remembered

That’s my old man’s memory. I just remembered a distinct improvement after a dreadful start 👍

We shouldn’t be reading too much into the league table at the moment. There is still plenty of time for it to change. Forest had something like 1 point from 9 games the season they got promoted, although they did have to change the manager for a change in fortune. We, ourselves, had a terrible start under Sousa (5 from 9 I think) and ended up close to the play offs after Sven arrived. Southampton could still challenge yet with their squad and I’m expecting them to get it right at some point. The old adage of just concentrating on ourselves is still a good one. It doesn’t currently matter what anyone else does if we keep winning

With all the Blackburn fans moaning how sh1t their goalkeeper is I’m wondering whether it would be fair to start Ward in this one and make a game of it?

I was interested to see what our Premier League starting eleven was when they dumped us out of the cup last year. Out of that team there is a strong possibility that 4 might play this time around. Of the others I’d probably say that the current side is better than last year’s team. Only Harvey Barnes is one who you might argue could improve our likely starting eleven. That’s before you start taking recent form and confidence into account. Also we have a much more settled style of play, approach and consistent coaching Whether all this makes any difference at all - we shall see

3 times champions of England 6 times FA Cup winners 1 times League Cup winners Good historic club and pretty successful when you consider the size of the town. It’s probably only within the last 25 years that they’ve become less high profile than teams like us really

Well I’ve long thought that Daka was a write off. He was very poor at Premier League level. Maybe he’s one of those whose stock rises when he’s not playing due to the form of one who is playing (Nacho?). It’s a tried and trusted recipe for forgetting how dreadful a player is. I was kind of happy to see the likes him, Soumare and Vestergaard never play for us again. The redemption of Vestergaard, however, makes me question everything from my own sanity to the meaning of life. Maybe EM can get a tune out of him? I’d be delighted to be proven wrong. With Ian’s relatively poor form it’s exactly the right time to give him a try. Even if it’s from the bench.

I’m always bothered when we lose and that will never change. I also get a bit irritated by the “Mickey Mouse Cup” comments. We’ve only won 5 trophies in our history and 3 of those were the EFL Cup. I’d love another one Expectations were low for this, however, and the chances of us getting anything out of the game were slim. Especially with wholesale changes. Being a realist doesn’t stop you hoping for a miracle though. We know where we are this season and we know what we’ve got to do to start clambering back to where we were. Promotion is everything and we move on. This game will be quickly forgotten if we achieve a win in the next game

Not watching Have JJ or Ricky got injured yet?
-
It was ok when Nettie Fowler sang it
-
Did somebody say it was a problem?
-
I’m going to go all old school and blame Rodgers for rushing them back too quickly in a nothing game!
-
So, if Daka comes on does that mean we have to pay Salzburg loads of money?
-
Well I usually use a television or a streaming device
