  1. Is it bad that this isn't even in the top 100 worst/ most pointedly banal Daily Fail headlines?
  2. That's all any of us can do, really. And if it all comes to naught, hope that those left behind don't view every single one of us with contempt, but just those who, through ignorance or malice, chose to do nothing.
  3. Littler handing out an absolute masterclass here.
  4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c93qvqx5y01o Dr Goodall not pulling her punches then. There is such a disconnect between what people who know lots about the topic say need to be done and government policymaking on the matter - the difference is huge, it's costly and if something isn't done about it then the cost will veer towards the absolute.
  5. Given history, that's entirely explicable. That being said, it's not like the (rich) Scots and Welsh (not necessarily Irish) didn't benefit some from the less savoury aspects of that history too. Pretty much. It's more complex than many people give it credit for.
  6. Yep, finicky refs and fine margins = third narrow loss to SH opposition. There's just a little something missing from this England team.
  7. Principles without the genuine power to apply them on a meaningful scale are about as much use as a fart in a category five hurricane. The past few years have shown that very, very clearly.
  8. Reffing is a little odd here too.
  9. A degree of farce Shakespeare himself would have been proud of.
  10. On general temperate conditions it's better than a fair few places, and far less polluted than South and East Asia tbh. Outdoorwise the UK isn't all that lacking - it's the resources that allow for career where the issue may be.
  11. Does the UK have the infrastructure and resources to give this talent what it deserves?
  12. I can't see all of those happening on any short term time frame tbh, and then the attitudes of such people towards the biosphere may end up pushing the needle to 11 anyway as resources drastically diminish.
  13. I don't exactly foresee the Tories pushing for the right to bodily autonomy for women to be hypocritically restricted in the way that their US counterparts might (and the Tories, if not Reform, actually aren't delusional enough to not buy the scientific consensus on most matters), but there are similarities.
  14. Finished on 283, fifth highest total of all time and second highest between two Test nations.
  15. For the time being, certainly. However, it is rather clear that social media is allowing a certain amount of bleedover from the latter into the former in terms of certain ideas.
  16. I wonder if in light of recent developments, the UK will impose vaccination record requirements on American visitors/tourists, as no doubt they do on visitors from various other countries?
  17. Absolutely so. And a lot of them are a lot more repressive in such things than either the US or the UK tbh. I would hope that none of them make such claims to superiority of society in various channels as the US does, though.
  18. Absolutely. Their record on race and gender relations driven by that First Amendment is clearly an example to follow.
  19. Nor Denethor, come to that.
  20. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2lknel1xpo The United Nations' COP climate talks are "no longer fit for purpose" and need an urgent overhaul, key experts including a former UN secretary general and former UN climate chief have said. Well, that's not great. But again the issue rises; luminaries can write these strongly worded letters as much as they like (and may well be right about it) but to actually see change now than words is needed for enforcement. How that gets sorted I have no bloody idea, but the clock continues to tick and the present and future cost continues to rise.
  21. Time for another reread. Above is still true.
  22. I wasn't aware the Lost Seeing Stones had such power in this realm.
  23. Anyhow, on topic, thanks Gary. Local boy, helped save the club and has spoken out for LCFC when most other big names only have eyes for the "Big 6".
  24. ...and numerous institutions in the UK have been found to have bias towards white males, historically and today. Is there a further point being driven at here?
  25. If that's true (and it's possible), then imo there's no point in taking the chance beyond some form of idealism.
