I don’t think a Trump medical episode can be completely out of the question. He’s old, it’s a stressful job, he’s overweight for his age, he clearly takes some kind of stimulants etc. A stroke or heart attack that takes him out of action can’t be far off.

It would be theoretically absurd to use them in this situation. Iran are absolutely zero threat to them at this stage. It would also mean Russia would immediately bring nukes into Ukraine as the taboo would be gone. It would be an act of incomparable insanity.

My theory is that they’ve basically got Iran on the brink and Trump is going with the wind and is coming in for the victory lap.

It’s exceptionally unlikely it escalates to anything that has any material impact on you. Nobody is going to support Iran, Russia has a relationship with Israel it needs to keep, China will let the chaos happen around them, EU countries have no reason to get involved etc. Chances are it’ll all be over by this time next week.

Maybe I’m way off here but I think it’s time European states hedged their bets on China. There is basically only one superpower making sensible, stable long term decisions and they will emerge from whatever the hell is happening at the minute in a very strong place.
