  1. Not needed, my wife wouldn't claim to be the greatest cook ever but at least has the instincts for when things are very, very wrong shared by, well, the rest of humanity really. Those tribes in the Amazon who have had no contact with the outside world get uncomfortable with seeing someone put bacon in a microwave despite not having any concept of either
  2. 16 years since I met my wife and I've still no idea what it's about. My MIL has some very strange ideas around food and this is just one of a long list of things she does that I find utterly inexplicable. At least she's not poisoned us, yet, anyway
  3. My MIL insists on microwaving it, is it worse than that? It's the sort of thing most folk do once and not again, ever
  4. Sounds like they're taking porridge and simply making it better/less nutritious
  5. Every time somebody mentions grits I cannot remember what they are so I have to look them up and then realise there's a reason I can't remember: made of "maize that has been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization, with the pericarp (ovary wall) removed." My mouth's watering at the very thought
  6. I ran a 10k in that time yesterday and I've done dozens of them (but am also old), so that looks like a good start to me
  7. DofF at unnamed club: It says here Mr Van Nistelrooy that during your last employment you took an already substandard Leicester City side and somehow conspired to make it perhaps the shittest one in living memory. Want to talk us through that? RVN: (shrugs, smiles) Hey man that's football
  8. One of the tech bros is currently weighing up whether he should pay someone fifty million dollars just to slaughter them all and be done with it. It won't be Musk but I wouldn't bet against the other two
  9. For some reason I'm reminded of a former colleague who got carried away when 'tidying up' her PC and ended up not just deleting all her old unwanted documents etc, but any files that she did not recognise or know the purpose of, including those of the operating system itself and was most indignant when it stopped working
  10. I've seen a lot of social media coverage drawing attention to the upheaval caused by the new adminstration"s cuts and firings at the Federal Aviation Authority, and at the same time the counter argument that this happened because the FAA employs 'retards' under ill conceived DEI policies and as always it's just so difficult to guess at which scenario is the more likely
  11. At last another worth sharing (barely) Wordle 1,315 3/6 ⬜🟩⬜⬜⬜ 🟨🟩⬜⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  12. We've still got 2 Samsung TVs that have basically been retired after 16 and 10 years without any issues, but two newer ones both developed problems. There's lot of luck involved with this stuff and I'd buy from somewhere with a nice long warranty whatever brand folk go for
  13. We've gone from being all Samsung to all LG and the latter have had the edge reliability wise
  14. I had a small telly from Richer Sounds that developed a fault that couldn't be fixed five years into the six year warranty and they basically gave me back the original cost of it to put towards a replacement. I can't believe they always do this, they wouldn't still be in business, but it's a good example of how good their customer service is
  15. Last summer I spent £430 on a 50" LG from John Lewis, so I got the 5 year warranty. It replaced a similarly priced Samsung which had pretty much lost its Smart functionality as it was a decade old and couldn't support the modern apps. It's not wildly impressive but the interface and speed etc is good for the money. I'm not sure how much extra future proofing you get if you spend significantly more
  16. For me, the 'Roman salutes' and open support for AfD are just signs of someone that values good old hard work and common sense. Wracking my brain for other things it might mean but so far just coming up with blanks
  17. Does a second one cancel out the first? I've not been up with Nazi salute etiquette since I fell out with Unity Mitford when she didn't return the power tools I lent her
  18. It's not a Nazi salute if you do it really quickly
  19. A long range Tesla Model 3 would do that easily, even in winter. I'm not sure I'd trust my Ioniq 5 to do that when it's cold but it can take super fast chargers so I can add enough miles to make the journey comfortably by charging at Sainsbury's Fosse Park for ten or fifteen minutes and not add significantly to the cost of the journey. You could save a lot more money though by not actually making that trip, I live half an hour's walk from the ground and I can barely be arsed to go
  20. Wordle 1,309 3/6 ⬜⬜🟨⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩⬜🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  21. I wouldn't fill my Zeppelin fleet (with which I intend to take over the world - screw you, Musk) with anything else
  22. That's a sweet starting guess I changed mine today, not quite as good though: Wordle 1,308 3/6 🟩⬜⬜⬜🟩 🟩🟨⬜🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  23. Isn't the promotion of hydrogen cars just another delaying tactic on the part of the fossil fuel industry to delay the transition to electric vehicles? Hydrogen may be an abundant element but it's not cheap to generate, store or transport. Great for extra dangerous ballooning though Edit: apologies for tediously repeating pretty much the points made in literally the post above
  24. Wordle 1,305 6/6 🟨⬜🟨⬜🟨 🟨🟨⬜⬜🟨 ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟩⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟩🟨⬜⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 It's days like this it really feels like I'm not getting any better at this. I can live without the stress I felt on the last guess as well
  25. Also, I think I've gone up an age category so got a chance of being average instead of slightly below average
