  1. The only artists impressions I remember of a redeveloped Filbert St, was when they thought about turning the pitch though 90 degrees. But I think that was some intermediate idea, not for any fully redeveloped Filbo if they'd had more land to play with. There's no evidence corners would've been filled in. In fact for cheapness, I think the opposite would've been the case. The Carling Stand was built on a "goal post" box design, and I suspect if we had redeveloped the East and North Stands, it would've been on a similar structure. You would've then had 3 new stands. The only old stand would've been the Double Decker, but there wasn't too much wrong with that ... and it would've continued to do the job. Ipswich Town's Portman Road still basically has one "old stand", and that's perfectly decent. Anyway, it's all a moot point. The Club has moved, and that's that!
  2. You never know. If we play like we did away to Tottenham, it might be half decent. Who knows? That's the beauty of the game.
  3. The Club have even put it on General Sale, so you should be able to see yourself now. (How desperate is our Club? General Sale! Whatever next? Free donuts if you attend?)
  4. The Baseball Ground in the mid 70's was as good as it got. Walking down Columbo Street after a match ...
  5. I think it's always been a matter of preference. Some people prefer all round/bowl type stadia, as they think it "holds the atmosphere" better. Personally, I've always preferred free-standing stands. I just think the definition between the stands adds something, but I can't quantify it. I think Ibrox was perfect before they filled in the corners some years ago.
  6. Spion Kop & Double Decker - last league home game (May 2002). Was it really 20+ years ago?
  7. It would've been possible if they had (compulsorary) purchased all the houses on Filbert Street. It would've required a local planning order to move/remove the Filbert Street road, but that wouldn't have been unsurmountable. Anyway, it's a moot point. It never happened, along with the move to Beaumont Leys in the 70's or Bede Island in the 90's. ### EDITED to say: Just seen the above post, which answers my point!
  8. I think the Club owned all the houses on Burnmoor Street, until we got into financial troubles in the mid 1980's and ended up selling them. If we'd still owned them come 2000, I don't think we would have moved. 2 new stands on the East and North sides would've probably raised the capacity to near the current 32,000 Obviously that's all history now. There have been a few great games with memorable atmospheres at the new ground. Sevilla at home in 2016-17 was probably the best ever. And obviously the last few games in the 2015-16 title season were brilliant. But apart from that, I can't say I've ever found a great emotional attachment to it. Filbo was where I fell in love with football. Everything about it ... the character, the terraces, the smell of tobacco, cigars and burgers, the pitch invasions, the scary times. It was rubbish at times, but so brilliant at others.
  9. Didn't they used to call Crystal Palace fans, "Nigels" ?
  10. This is actually very true. Back in the day, if we won an FA Cup tie the place was buzzing, and if we lost we were all genuinely miserable walking out of the ground. A couple of years ago, after our last day home win to West Ham ... walking out of the ground, you wouldn't have known we'd just been relegated. Everyone was just behaving like it was a mid season 1-1 draw.
  11. You could replace "Tigers" with "Nearly everyone else" and it still be true.
  12. In mitigation (and I'm not a happy-clapper btw) ... the only thing I can think, is that at half time we're looking at a 6 or 7-0 defeat, and they clapped them off for a 2nd half effort in nearly keeping it to 3-0. (which, of course, being incompetent, we couldn't even manage that!)
  13. I think you're missing the point here. Once-upon-a-time the Club treated you as a supporter; now they just seem to view us as a "Customer". Some of us will say "fine, but just treat us as valued customers then ... and for my £500 Season Ticket, I'd like a card please. It's not much to ask". I get the feeling it really is more to do with the principle, of being treated like s h i t, and not even being given a basic reasonable choice.
  14. Not quite sure what getting older has to do with this? But you generally can't please everyone, that is true.
  15. Just remember 2 things: 1. A smart phone is a computer (albeit a computer that can make phone calls and send texts). 2. Computers always work ... until they don't. (Every computer I've owned has at some point hung, stopped doing what it should've done, or just plain died and given up the ghost.)
  16. @Tuna It's just under 1.5 miles, so I'd say nearer 25 mins walk, unless you're a fast walker. I can do it in 20 mins, but that's a brisk walk - without getting held up at every traffic light crossing. or stuck behind people dawdling along.
  17. Not quite on a par with this. But I remember West Ham Utd doing something similar in the mid 1970's. Near the half way point in the season, I think they were top of the league. By the end of the season, they only just avoided relegation! Just checking the facts ... it was 1975-76. First 18 games: Won 11 Drew 4 Lost 3 (end of November) Last 24 games: Won 2, Drew 6, Lost 16
  18. I don't mind you asking. I'm old enough that i'm full of aches and pains, but young enough that i can still play 5-a-side football. If that's not too cryptic?
  19. IMHO the music we play before a game is absolute rubbish, and has been for as many years as I can remember. It pains me to say, but Forest away 3 years ago, were bang on it with the pre-match music. Can't remember the exact play list, but Elton John's "Saturday night's alright for fighting" got an airing. I hate Forest, but couldn't fault them there.
  20. Have moved around the country a few times since starting work. Round trip has varied from 90 to 250 miles, when we lived up North. Currently only a round trip of 130 miles or so. Always mixed the driving up with catching the train whenever practical, and a few beers with old m8's. Also used to double up day trips to see the family in Leicester, so it wasn't always just pure football. As a few others have said ... the worst thing is night time road closures, especially after a lovely 0-3 home defeat to some anonymous rubbish. And when you're up at 05.30 for work the following morning. The enthusiasm has been waning a bit the last few years, but that might just be age. Plenty of things to annoy you, but I still enjoy the day out, meeting up with friends for a few beers, the odd shout and sing-along, and occasionally even the odd good match (which does remind you why we do it in the first place). When all's said and done, supporting the City has given me the best days of my life (football, m8's, beer, travel, laughs). I wouldn't change it for anything.
  21. It's been the best weekend all season. Our 3 main relegation rivals all lose, and Forest get absolutely hammered.
  22. Some of the rules are almost laughable. Allocation – Semi-Finals and Final 200. For the Semi-Finals and the Final of the Competition, The Association, at its absolute discretion, may allocate tickets to the competing Clubs in such number and on such basis (and at such price) as it considers appropriate. "As it considers appropriate" ie give more tickets to the big/rich clubs, that are going to snap up most of the "neutral" tickets anyway.
  23. This is QPR's current away ticket rules this season: IMPORTANT TICKETING INFORMATION: Following consultation with our Supporters’ Consultation Committee, the following method is now adopted for away ticket sales: 20% of each away ticket allocation held back to be sold on general sale Loyalty Point windows still used for away ticket sales prior to general sale period General sale tickets become available when the Loyalty Points window closes or the first 80% of tickets sell out Supporters registered on the away tickets scheme not affected by the above and have their away tickets processed as normal Too sensible. Would never happen here.
