I find the list of usual suspects really depressing, including Vieira, Lampard and Gerrard. I wouldn't be opposed to Smith and Co continuing if we can't find a better alternative. At least they know who's likely to stay, and they know the set up, so could hit the ground running. However, I think we should try something radical like Burnley did, and approach Van Nistelrooy. Obviously unlikely to take the job now that we're relegated, but if you don't ask, you'll never know. After all, he can only say no. It might be a gamble, and may not be popular with a certain player, but I'd like to see us make an approach to Cambiasso .

Exactly this. If the Castagne chance had gone in, we'd have been calling it a Smith masterclass, albeit in shithousery. Whatever other teams do on Sunday, we still have to take care of our own business, which is not a foregone conclusion.
