Leicester City For Sale (Ongoing Thread)
Lillehamring replied to AKCJ's topic in Leicester City Forum
You can't really say it's 'different' as we, as yet, have nothing to compare it with - there's no reason why we wouldn't end up being bought by similar types (i mooted here a swift/kelce buy out - not beyond the realms of possiblity). And your last comment is exactly why we could be picked up in a similar 'show biz' deal - we ARE a known quantity, we do have the 7th biggest social media bit in england, we aren't just an ordinary provincial mediocre club. There's no greater example of the "romance of fan culture and British football" than 15/16. And thus why we ARE still a big draw to potential investors, probably why the valuation is unusually high for a L1 club. Not that we need celebrities to transform us into something interesting, 15/16 has already done that. If you look at the club as an outsider, investors who haven't been polluted by the local toxicity - there's a lot to be said for us a cheap purchase with great possibilities. -

Summer 26 Transfer rumours 'X' and other Weak Links
Lillehamring replied to davieG's topic in Transfer Talk
Well, that's not true - we've bought plenty of strikers to take over from vardy, they've just not been very good. Anyway, that's not really the point i'm making - the point is that a striker can't be a priority at the moment, but i do believe if a good option came up they would buy them, regardless of what other positions we are focused on. -

I wouldn't pay too much thought to how potential owners will feel about the location of the club - let's face it, wrexham is hardly beverly hills. For most americans, they don't even know the difference between cities, countries and continents - let alone whether Leicester is glamourous or not. additionally, any owner would consider leicester almost a suburb of london - the distance from the south of LA to the north is the same as from london to brighton. -

Just a general observation - every manager we've had has expressed that philosophy. I don't think a striker is a priority, but if they have the chance to get someone they really like, and can afford, i believe they'd do it, regardles. -

You say that, but it's always been the case that they will buy a player if they can afford him and they think he'll make a difference - if they see a striker they love and can get, they'll certainly try to do so. -

Closest plausible suggestion (not a rumour, just an idea) I've herard, would be a Kelce/Swift buy out - I think we're global enough for it to not be completely implausible. -

Which i'm sure they would rather not have done - but, thanks to 2015/16, it's probably raised the profile of their business significantly enough for it to be considered a successful investment.... -

Am i right in thinking, though, that every club is in debt - even clubs that are sold? I assume anyone who buys a football club is expecting the club to lose money, and that the value to them is made elsewhere. -

A lot of talk about the value of the club here only considers bricks and mortar, the squad, the debts. but i think one element of real value in today's economic climate that nobody has mentioned, is our insane social media catchment. Only 6 teams in england have a bigger social media following than leicester, even globally we rank highly, and had tiktok existed in 2016 we'd probably be even higher. Now i'm not saying everyone who follows us actually still follows us - but in a world where advertising rules all having a social media catchment of 24M is a juicy nibble for an owner who believes they can get us into the top flight again. that's more than newcastle, west ham, everton, villa... -
Burns?
-
Once people here make up their mind about a player, that's it. And they've decided that these two have zero redeemable qualities. I think Skipp is decent player, seems to have worked hard all through pre-season and is a mature calming influence in the centre of the park. Thomas has his weaknesses, but against Hull, nearly all our best chances came from him, and again, for any weaknesses he can't be accused of laziness or not caring.
-
I assume then, Burns at RW, Alves at LW. I guess bobby, technically up fornt, though I suspect him and Cullen will shift between 9 and 10?

Stephy Mavididi (loaned to Watford, official)

EDIT: I may be stupid - but it's pretty standard policy that in a 25 man squad, you have two players for each position - we easily have that, so, stupid, or not, me and, apparently, the manager are happy with that. Panicking because we only have 4 players who can play DM is absurd. -

we are playing essentially a 4-1-4-1 formation with masses of flexibility. of that attacking four the middle, call them what you will - 8 or 10 AM, CAM - we know page can play there, we know we are well stocked there, we are not light there, we are not short there, we are definitely not 'horrendously short' there. The deeper midfielder (6, DM - whatever) - we know page can play there, again, we not short in this position. I would hate to see page go but from both a numbers and talent point of view if he did it is the one area of the team where we are actually more than well-stocked. Your original point was that if page went we would be horrendously short - and i say again, this is wrong. -

It is believed to be his best position. An academy expert might be able to shed more light on this. -

You initially only mention the positions of Page and Souttar (let's forget about souttar), but if you want to expand it.... page's primary position is a 6, who can play 8 - given that page is probably behind braybrooke, chaplin, cullen and reid to play one of the 8/10 spots and, as discussed elsewhere, has alternate options at 6, i don't see his sale from a numbers point of view as such a crisis. It would still leave us with at least 2 players in each of the 3 midfield spots (plus neale has played 6 and 8 in preseason, and Alves can play as an 8). I think you're worrying unnecessarily about this. -

Horrendously short is what we were with strikers a week ago. Other than the amount of games, I wouldn't have a problem if it was just Skipp, but knowing that we can use Braybrooke to take some of the workload or if Skipp gets injured is more than adequate back up. Most squad philosophies will agree that you want 2 decent options in each position - and we have that to a really good standard. Beyond these two, Neale looked great in pre-season and Hamza, although not popular, is a perfectly decent player at this level and on occasions can put in some really good performances. If anything, we're spoilt for choice with 4 options for a single on-field spot. -

at 6 we have skipp, braybrooke, hamza and neale - i wouldn't class that as 'horribly' short, maybe not even short - certainly losing souttar would be a much bigger hole in the squad. -
First time we've heard anyone really addressing our financial situation - from this it feels like we've done enough business this summer to keep the wolves from the door? *awaits series of crap puns about Wolverhampton*

How are we favourites to win the League?
Lillehamring replied to ourla's topic in Leicester City Forum
I'm not so sure about the 'gaping holes' - show me a L1 side with a stronger first XI than us. And, position for position, show me a L1 team that has as good quality as us in depth. As for the demotivated players - Faes has hardly been near the team, hamza has looked energetic and locked in, even Mavididi, though, for me, the weakest link, has still seemed to work harder this year than last (even if that is to get a move) - from what we've seen on SoMe, from Martin, the players, the mood seems very different to previous seasons. The worst offenders have gone. And I feel that if these so-called 'has-beens' slack off for even a minute, Martin will have them out the squad without hesitation. -

Don't forget - after 10 games last season, we were 4th and had only lost once. It still beggars belief how we managed to go from being favourites (and looking good for it) to being an absolute train wreck. -

I can understand why you might not feel many people had that opinion because the most vocal parties have been foxes talk and the foxes trust both of whom are very much anti-KP. But i think a lot of ordinary fans (fans that don't post here or affiliate themselves with the foxes trust (who strike me as being incompetent)) have been open-minded about the external contributing factors and were sceptical about the required switch from competence and success to the alleged unilateral collapse of intelligence - and were therefore willing to give the club a chance to see things through. It's all moot, now, anyway - a sale does seem to be inevitable now. I don't want to reignite any debate of the whys and wherefores of what has happened (which is why i'm only replying to this comment) - -

If you really want to believe that the protests made a difference, you go for it - as someone probably said, somewhere, meaninglessly -"Whatever gets you through I guess." -

Um, ok, that's a little semantic, but... For me, It's not something i wanted (past tense) but, yes, it's become something that i feel is for the best (present tense). I think for many years the fan base has been split with a certain faction believing in the "KP are doing this on purpose and must go" argument, and another believing in the "KP are the victims of their own ambition, let's just get through this together" argument. There's no way that both of these arguments can be proven either to be right or wrong. Thus why i phrased that in the past tense (wanted). Where we're at now, yes, I agree, we all should want this to happen as soon as possible for the good of the club. I think my point was, for those who have been dreaming of this all the time, they should be grateful that it's happening and stop short of absurdly trying to take credit for it.
