Conduit Street, 1946.. -
Not sure he had much choice re subs, Albrighton, plenty on here think he's well passed it, Casadei, was awful in the last game, Cannon, not fired up all season and Daka I guess could have come on for Nacho but he's likely to want to occupy the same space as Vardy.. Where as when he was subbing earlier games he had Ndidi, Yunus and Justin with Doyle in the team.

I’ve change my mind

We’ve got a much more physical team this year as well as a number of technically decent players compared with last season.

Story of Leicester A view along Peace Walk to the Arch of Remembrance in Victoria Park, circa 1950s. The Arch of Remembrance and the park gates were both designed by the renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, who also created the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. The striking Arch of Remembrance was built as a memorial to those who died during the Great War and was orientated to view the sunrise between the arches on the 11th November each year. The cost of the Arch was £27,000, of which £10,000 was provided by the people of Leicester. The Arch was officially unveiled by two war widows on July 3rd 1925 in a large and well attended ceremony. The wrought-iron park gates at the base of peace walk and by London road were presented to the city in 1931 by Sir Jonathan North in memory of his wife, Kate, who had been a prominent figure in Leicester’s voluntary war effort. North was a former shoe and boot trade businessman who had become the Mayor of Leicester during the war and was knighted by King George V in 1919 for his outstanding services to the city. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/enzo-maresca-considers-ricardo-pereira-8899122 Enzo Maresca considers Ricardo Pereira decision in Leicester City bid to cause more danger The Portuguese international took on a slightly different role for the final 20 minutes of the loss to Leeds and could be played there from the start against Middlesbrough ByJordan Blackwell 08:00, 11 NOV 2023 Enzo Maresca could draw on Ricardo Pereira’s attacking qualities in an advanced position as he looks to get in behind Middlesbrough and get back to winning ways. The Leicester City manager shuffled Ricardo into one of the two number eight roles for the final quarter of the defeat to Leeds, and with none of his injured midfielders yet fit to return, he could try the Portuguese international there from the start at the Riverside Stadium, he has said. Cesare Casadei has been Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s regular partner in the attacking midfield positions over the past few weeks while the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Yunus Akgun, and Dennis Praet have been out injured. But his struggles against Leeds saw Hamza Choudhury come on and Ricardo pushed forward, and Maresca feels he has the attributes needed to shine there. “Yeah, Ricardo is clever, he’s intelligent,” Maresca said. “He’s a player who can play in the pocket because he’s a player who moves very well in small spaces. Against Leeds, the last 20 minutes, he did very well. So he can do that, yes.” City fans remember Ricardo as an attacking force, the right-back using his intricate dribbling ability to score and set up goals in his first couple of seasons with the club. Under Maresca, he’s taken on a more technical position, operating at right-back out of possession, and then moving forward to help out Harry Winks in the deep midfield area when City do have the ball. But that doesn’t mean he has lost his attacking qualities. In fact, Maresca reeled off a list of moments around the box where Ricardo has been a threat this season. “If you see the amount of assists he’s done already, unfortunately for some of them we missed the goals,” the manager added. “I can remember two or three where he passed the ball and the team-mates were in front of the keeper and we missed. “There was Macca (Kasey McAteer) against Coventry, Dennis Praet against Huddersfield. The penalty we scored against Bristol City, that was a Ricardo pass to Wilf. The goal we scored against Stoke at home, Ricardo passed the ball to Kele. “Ricardo is a guy that, close to the box, it’s dangerous for the opponent because he has quality, he has the last pass, so the idea is to bring him next to Harry so he can build and he can give the last pass. Against Leeds, even more, we brought him even more to the opposite box.”

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/local-news/bid-build-new-motorway-service-8893213 Bid to build new motorway service station in Leicestershire would be first for M69 after almost 50 years Starbucks, KFC, Burger King and more could be headed to the M69 ByJulia BreensLocal Democracy Reporter 07:52, 11 NOV 2023 The M69 could be about to get its first motorway services after plans were unveiled for a petrol station, Starbucks and fast food restaurants on land near Hinckley. The road, which links Leicester and Coventry and was opened in 1977, doesn't currently have any service areas. Drivers on the almost 16-mile stretch currently either face having to exit the motorway to find petrol and facilities in Hinckley or nearby villages, or waiting to reach services on other motorways. The nearest stops are at Leicester Forest East on the M1 or Corley on the M6. But Welcome Break – one of Britain’s largest motorway services operators – has now lodged planning applications with both Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Rugby Borough council to provide car and HGV fuel stations, as well as a drive-thru coffee shop, fast food restaurants, a shop, toilets, EV charging points and a gaming zone. The proposed development straddles land in both Hinckley and Bosworth and Rugby districts. Vehicle and pedestrian access will be from the A5, with the services based on land next to the Stretton Baskerville Roundabout at Junction 1. The plans reveal big names will based at the service area, including Starbucks, KFC, Burger King and Pret a Manger. Also promised are 269 car parking spaces, picnic and dog walking facilities, and parking for HGVs, coaches and caravans. The application, submitted by agent Montagu Evans on behalf of Welcome Break, says National Highways requirements stress only sites directly adjacent to the motorway and between junctions or sites that share a ‘common boundary’ at an existing junction on a motorway are appropriate for new service areas, with Welcome Break saying this site is suitable ‘based on their extensive experience in the operation of such facilities’. Welcome Break says in its application that the services would contribute £3.5 million each year to the local economy, adding: "With a large number of part time roles expected, the total number of employee jobs created by the facility directly is estimated at 183." In 2021, Stretton Point Developments was given permission to build a much smaller 'roadside services facility' that would have included a petrol station and a drive-thru restaurant, along with office space, with Welcome Break then buying the land in 2022. A map from ‘Motorway Services Online’ submitted with the application confirms the M69 'does not benefit from any motorway service area provision’. It reveals that Leicester Forest East services is 12 miles from the proposed site, while Corley is 14 miles away in the opposite direction, meaning there is a 26-mile stretch of the motorway network without services – the Government-recommended maximum distance between HGV facilities is 14 miles. Documents submitted on behalf of Welcome Break read: “Welcome Break is one of the UK’s leading motorway service operators, running 59 service areas and 31 hotels up and down the country. With 24-hour fuel courts, EV charging, and world-class customer facing brands. The company’s facilities serve over 85 million customers every year.” -

Someone posted this on my Facebook page in reply to my comment about the City, Tigers etc using this. If this is true then I really don't see a massive justification for it. But knowing how things are usually done it'll probably be available for the Tigers and not the City. Unfortunately, it would be impossible for trains to service LCFC or Tigers traffic. Trains will probably be 2 car units and therefore would not have the necessary capacity. It's unlikely that trains would be strengthened on match days - they aren't anywhere else in the country. Look at the Rocoh Arena, Coventry. The station servicing the stadium used to be closed on match days for fears of overcrowding! Ridiculous, I know.

https://sportwitness.co.uk/kasper-schmeichel-great-guy-leicester-city-player-legend-now-club-tattoo-leg/ Kasper Schmeichel on ‘great guy’ Leicester City player – Legend where he is now, club tattoo on leg By Thomas Coast -10th November 2023 SHARE Leaving Leicester City for OGC Nice, Kasper Schmeichel never managed to find happiness in the south of France, which is why he is now at Anderlecht. He moved to Belgium this summer, and finally gave his first interview after joining the club, where he was asked a number of questions, including some about his time at the King Power Stadium. Relayed by HLN, the goalkeeper talked about the many players who have crossed over from Anderlecht to Leicester, including now retired centre-back Marcin Wasilewski, The 43-year-old spent four years with the Foxes between 2013 and 2017, and is now part of a growing list of footballers to have featured for both clubs, such as Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans. Schmeichel talked in depth about the former Poland international, and had nothing other than great things to say about him. He said: “I know his status (at Anderlecht), he also has a huge tattoo of Anderlecht on his leg. At Leicester, groups of Anderlecht fans were regularly in the stands just to watch Wasilewski at work. That illustrates the bond he has with this club.” Asked if the player was still as ‘crazy’ as he used to be, the goalkeeper replied: “I wouldn’t call him crazy, he’s a great guy. An example for everyone, not just for the young players. I remember when he came on trial at Leicester, and from his first day, he immediately tackled one of the key players. “The manager, Nigel Pearson, immediately gave him the yes. I have not seen a player as determined as Wasilewski in my career. He only has one gear: sixth.” The defender went on to make 77 appearances for Leicester over the course of his time there, including 30 in the Premier League. By contract, he featured 194 times for Anderlecht, where he scored 22 goals and assisted another 11, which is no mean feat considering he mainly played in the heart of their defence.

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/5m-leicester-city-transfer-is-looking-a-real-masterstroke/ £5m Leicester City transfer is looking a real masterstroke: view BY ADAM TIFFEN PUBLISHED 15 HOURS AGO What a purchase this has turned out to be Mads Hermansen HIGHLIGHTS Mads Hermansen's acquisition for just £5m has been a game-changing move for Leicester City, transforming their playing style and defensive record. Hermansen's confident on-the-ball skills and ability to intercept deep balls have allowed Leicester to dominate possession and press higher up the pitch. With a passing accuracy better than renowned keeper Ederson, Hermansen's impressive shot-saving ability and young age make him a potential club legend for Leicester. For just £5 million, buying Mads Hermansen has turned out to be an absolute masterstroke by Enzo Maresca and the Leicester City recruitment team. There has been a complete transformation in how Leicester play football, from last season to this one. In their final season in the Premier League, they missed a lot of chances, conceded nearly two goals per game, and were a pretty lifeless and uninspiring team to watch. The same cannot be said for the 2023/24 Leicester side. They're creating, and finishing, more big chances, and they dominate the ball in every game they play. They've got an exciting group of players with a mix of quality and youth. A return to the top 20 sides in the English football pyramid seems destined. A lot of this can be put down to the new boss, Maresca. He's implemented a style of play that is both effective and nice on the eye. There is a clear identity and plan at the club, and the recruitment has been excellent. Of all the new players they've acquired, there's one that stands out from the rest. Signing of the season? Mads Hermansen For just £5 million, Leicester have arguably bought the best goalkeeper in the league. With the money that is floating around the Championship, that is an incredible move. The 23-year-old Danish shot-stopper arrived from Brondby in the summer, having impressed in his country's top division in the 2022/23 season. In that campaign, Brondby were not the most solid defensive team. Bringing in a young goalkeeper from a middle-of-the-road Danish team was quite a risk but it's more than paid off. He's the second most expensive Championship keeper ever, but who can dispute his value now? When you look at Ellis Simms, who went to Coventry for a similar fee, Hermansen has had a much bigger impact. Why Mads Hermansen is so good Maresca came into the King Power Stadium with a clear plan as to how he wanted to play. It involved playing out from the back, and, with Leicester's previous set of keepers, that was going to be hard to achieve. His on-the-ball confidence allows the team's possession to be up near 70% because he's not a vulnerable point that teams can exploit; as previous Leicester keepers have been. He's very good at coming out of his box to intercept balls that come over the top of his defence. In fact, he's got a 100% successful run out rate, according to Sofascore. This allows the rest of his team to press higher up the pitch, forcing the opposition into more mistakes in worse areas. All of this ultimately leads to the Foxes occupying their opponents' half for most games. His overall passing accuracy is at 83%, which is better than Manchester City's goalkeeper Ederson (82%), who is regarded as one of the best on-the-ball keepers in the world. What's most important, though, is the team's defensive record. Prior to the Preston North End game, Leicester had only conceded nine goals in 15 games, and Hermansen had kept five clean sheets. It's hard enough to beat teams that dominate the ball. It makes it even harder when the opposition goalkeeper saves 81% of the shots that they face. The Dane is only 23 years old and there's nothing to suggest that he's going to be losing his starting spot for a very long time. The club have a history of turning Danish goalkeepers into club legends. Hermansen could well be on that path.

Extending the Ivanhoe line restoration to Leicester could cost additional £271M https://www.newcivilengineer.com/latest/extending-the-ivanhoe-line-restoration-to-leicester-could-cost-additional-271m-09-11-2023/?fbclid=IwAR3dz0CejbTR0qAKq7VtPjQBlHMCf7jlYBDLv79dYep8AfDxuFpy39CVpOg I still believe it would be very beneficial to take it as far as the KP with the football, rugby, LRI, Cricket all within a decent distance without the significant cost of reinstating the curve to London Road Station.

Not sure a building can be said to claim lives and it's not liked because the owners fail to maintain it properly. It was the first of it's kind in the UK and was well used both with the Supermarket and the 36 lane bowling alley the largest single floor alley in the UK. As I said above we were always a forward thinking contemporary City, although on the downside it did lead to the destruction of many fine buildings sadly that's all we seem capable of claiming fame for doing these days. -

The defender has not played for his country for 17 months while he has been an outcast at City, but after an impressive run of form for Maresca’s Championship table-toppers, he has been called up by Kasper Hjulmand for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Slovenia and Northern Ireland. Vestergaard is in the squad alongside Mads Hermansen, Victor Kristiansen and Kasper Schmeichel. The 31-year-old centre-back has looked at home in the system employed by the Leicester City boss, and he believes that has allowed him to return to his best. That has helped him convince Hjulmand to give him another try. “I was of course happy when Kasper called on Monday, because it is always a pleasure to be with the national team and something that I value enormously in my career,” Vestergaard told Ekstra Bladet. “I’m playing at my absolute best level again and I’ll come home with a lot of joy and confidence. “I simply enjoy playing football. Our manager has a very positive, modern, creative style of play with a lot of possession, where I have a good and exciting role in the build-up game as a kind of playmaker from the back. The plan is for me to set a rhythm and play up through the lines. Our manager has a clear philosophy where we work very tactically, and that is one of my strengths.” There was no hesitation on Hjulmand’s part in recalling Vestergaard, who was a key player during his country’s run to the Euro semi-finals in 2021. The Denmark boss has been pleased with what he’s seen of the defender at City this term. “It is very natural with Jannik,” Hjulmand said. “He was close (to a call-up) last time, and since then he has done even better. He is really, really good on the ball. He delivers well and knows our principles in the national team. “It is a pleasure to have him back, not only for his playing qualities, but also as a person and a leader. He has so much to offer, so we are looking forward to getting him back in. “He has been through a lot and for a year has experienced the reverse side of the coin at Leicester. He has been sitting on the platform while the train has moved. Now he is back and enjoying his football life. He is back at his right level, and so he is an asset to any team.” Spurs take on former City scout Mackenzie During four years at City, Rob Mackenzie was a key part of Steve Walsh’s recruitment team and was involved in deals for the likes of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Esteban Cambiasso, Anthony Knockart and Marcin Wasilewski. Since then, he’s been here, there and everywhere. He initially left City in 2015 to join Tottenham, and that’s where he is again now. His first stint at Spurs was only brief and between 2018 and 2020 he was working for King Power again as OH Leuven’s head of recruitment. He then took on the same role at Aston Villa, but leaves after three years to rejoin Spurs. In doing so, he follows Johan Lange from Villa Park, the Dane swapping the West Midlands for North London to become Tottenham’s technical director last month. Another young Heskey among the goals How City would love to have Heskey up front scoring goals again. Well, now there’s two to choose from. It’s been known for a while that Emile’s son Jaden was one to keep an eye on as he progressed through the ranks at Manchester City, and this season he was named captain of their under-18s team. But also making strides is 15-year-old Reigan. On his debut for the under-18s in the Uefa Youth League on Tuesday, the younger of the two Heskey brothers stepped up to coolly convert a penalty. Older brother Jaden knew he wouldn’t miss. “It was mad,” Jaden told Man City on hearing the news he would be playing alongside his brother. “He was actually at school at the time and found out there, then I got a text off my mum saying he was playing, then we found out today that he was starting. It was a big surprise, but it was good. “I had confidence in him, he won it himself and he’s normally very good at penalties. I didn’t think the atmosphere would get to him too much.” As things stand, both young Heskeys look like making the grade at Man City. But if they don't, surely there must be a place for them back where their dad is so adored? Fatawu ranks among best young wingers The statisticians at the CIES Football Observatory have put together another list, this time of the 100 best dribblers in the world under the age of 23. And coming in at number eight is City’s own Abdul Fatawu. The Sporting Lisbon loanee has already shown City what he can do out wide and has tormented a few Championship full-backs. It turns out, there aren’t many better developing talents right now. CIES say they’ve used dribbling data combined with league quality to come up with their list, which sees 19-year-old Fatawu one place above Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli. At the top is Norwegian prodigy Antonio Nusa, who plays for Club Brugge.
