Not you as well with the Urs Fischer shout šš Iām guessing you wouldnāt have Sean Dyche, but youād have Urs Fischer, even though they have very similar playing style traits?

Big Dan Ballard, I fvcking love you. -
As I posted yesterday Of course Burnley have had a change of ownership which has clearly played a part in their academy improvement. Some fans though tend to solely blame Dyche on Burnleyās academy not being up to standard in the past. All you need to do is go through their squads from his era, the quality of academy products just werenāt at his disposal, is Dyche to blame for that too? He isnāt going to thrust 4-5 youth players into the mix for Premier League football, when those youngsters were clearly of League 1 standard or lower, and the trajectory of most of Burnleyās academy players during that time proves that. Take this season for instance, at Everton, Dyche gave two youth players a chance in the first team, nobody will dare mention it though. Since he left, one of those players hasnāt featured under Moyes, the other got sent on loan to Derby, what does that show you. When the academy talent just isnāt there for managers, what are they meant to do? Your mate Danny Rohl is a decent example, Sheff Wed have one of the oldest squads in the Championship, he has relied heavily on numerous 30+ year olds. Who says he wouldnāt do the exact same at Leicester, itās just virtually impossible to judge. Dyche is the same. I branded him as some experienced loving merchant, but when you strip things back, thatās not really the case. Heās signed and developed players in the past 24 or younger, and gained decent profit on some of them. Who says he wouldnāt do similar at Leicester. Fans just tend to view managers in the wrong way when it comes to different aspects, Iāve been guilty of it. Are there managers out there who will for sure focus heavily on youth, of course, Regis Le Bris is a great example. Thatās the route Iād love us to go down, but letās be honest, it wouldnāt be a surprise if we went the promotion history route and appoint someone like Dyche, who knows what heād bring in terms of squad development, but to say heāll sign a bunch of journeymen and nothing else, his history suggests that statement simply doesnāt add up.

Burnley have actually been awarded Category 1 academy status today https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cm26llydm8po So they didnāt have category 1 status during Kompanyās era either, are people gonna blame him too?
-
Take the Championship for instance as a good example, itās littered with either up-and-coming managers or managers that have been around the block. I can see why some fans would really advocate for Dyche, but Iād just prefer someone in the Rohl, Mousinho, Manning type age bracket.
-
Drinking bleach is a good alternative to using razor blades But jokes aside, I fully agree, his style of play isnāt for me either, and Iād be shitting myself regarding the potential signings he could make, Michael Keane on a free being prime example. Your dislike to him just boils down to one thing though doesnāt it Finners⦠You just donāt want a big fvcking target man up front
-
But youāre talking from a style of play perspective regarding those players. In your paragraph that I pointed out, you was talking about how he only cares about journeymen, all I did was point out stating thatās not true, and gave some fair examples. Dyche prefers a certain type of winger, Iād say someone like Tom Fellows at WBA is right up Dycheās street, is he shit? With that last line though Finners, youāre just putting words into my mouth. Iāve not been vocally in favour for him, I even stated in my previous post that I donāt want him as Leicester manager. Iāve also stated numerous times on this forum, that Iād much prefer to see an energetic, high pressing style of football. Itās the style of football I enjoy watching the most, Iād pay good money to watch Iraolaās Bournemouth for example, over a Sean Dyche Leicester City team, should it happen. Iāve just pointed out that the argument regarding Dyche hates youth, and Dyche is addicted to journeymen is a little bit flawed, the evidence is there mate.
-
Excellent post Finners and agree with pretty much all of it. This section though is exactly how I viewed Dyche, someone who is completely addicted to experienced journeymen, and has zero faith of developing younger players, when you strip that back though, Iāve come to realise thatās not fully true. Would Dyche have picked up Fatawu or Hermansen, probably not. But Dyche is also a guy who signed and helped develop an England international in Nick Pope. Heās done this with numerous other players that ended up gaining profit, Michael Keane and Dwight McNeil spring to mind, and even though Tarkowski joined Everton for free, Dyche helped him develop into a Premier League standard centre back. Would he sign some more journeymen, highly likely. But would he also sign talents in their early 20ās, history also suggests thatās strongly possible. Ideally I donāt want him as Leicester manager, Iād much prefer someone younger with a far better brand of football. But Iāve come to learn that some people have been incredibly harsh on Dyche in certain aspects, and Iāll include myself in that.

Itās shit because their academy products simply werenāt good enough, hence why they ended up in League 1, League 2, National League, Ireland and Australia. The end.
-
𤣠Do some research mate. The majority of Burnleyās academy products from Dycheās era ended up in League 1, League 2 and National Leagues. Some even ended up in Ireland and Australia. That just indicates how shit Burnleyās academy was during that period, hence why hardly any broke through because they simply werenāt Premier League or Championship standard. All Dycheās fault though š¤£
-
You sure you donāt want Michael Kightly and Robbie Brady whipping balls into the box instead of Mavididi and Fatawu š¤
-
Nothing wrong with having midfield options consisting of Joey Barton, David Jones, Scott Arfield and Dean Marney No nonsense Ric.

The evidence suggests as @HankMarvin has pointed out, that Burnley and Evertonās academies just werenāt strong enough to give us a credible indication. Take the two Everton academy players that Dyche played this season for instance. Roman Dixon, 3 appearances, Moyes hasnāt used him since he came in. Harrison Armstrong, 6 appearances, Moyes sent him on loan to Derby in February. That just indicates that Evertonās academy players just arenāt ready for Premier League football yet, same can be said for a few others who have been loaned out to League 1 & 2. Would Dyche be brave enough to give the likes of Nelson, Alves, Monga and Evans regular game time, Iāve come to realise after delving deeper, that itās a very difficult topic to judge him on mate. As Iāve even said to you in previous weeks, I think thereās managers out there that you can guarantee would give those players a chance, even though some laughed at my suggestion, Tom Cleverley for instance would be perfect imo, because I saw first hand his work at Watford. In Dycheās case, I think it would be very much a case of who knows, but to regard him as some experience loving merchant, Iāve accepted that Iāve been a bit harsh on him in that regard
-
As much as Iāve pointed out how Dyche loves experience, I think this is the only bit where I feel that I for one, have been a bit harsh on him. Just look at the list of players that @HankMarvin posted on the previous page. How many of those players have made it at Premier League or Championship level, not many. That list of players just indicates that Burnleyās academy for example just wasnāt that strong. He gave Dwight McNeil a chance because he was one of only a couple that were actually ready, now of course heās developed into a solid Premier League player. Who knows how heād perceive some of our youngsters, but I fully agree that thereād be a sense of fear should he be appointed, because his history of giving youngsters a chance is a bit weaker than others, but as history suggests, maybe that actually does boil down to Burnley and Evertonās academies just not being strong enough.
-
He was definitely going to end up somewhere, Rangers has completely come out of the blue, the likes of Marco Rose and Gerrard were favourites only a few days ago. But who needs a novice Italian, when you can pick the likes of Gerrard, Brussel and Dyche.
-
Replace a wind-up merchant in Vardy, with another wind-up merchant in Maupay. This is the continuity fans are looking for right?
-
But people talk as if all our better academy players are ready for the first team, when itās highly likely that may not be the case. Take Will Alves for example, I wanted him in the first team this season, like many others did. His loan spell at Cardiff has perhaps proved, that he wasnāt actually ready for first team Premier League football. Even next season regardless of who the manager is, do I expect Will Alves to be in the starting 11 week in week out, possibly not. We just donāt know how the likes of Monga, Evans and Page will continue to develop. Some of our youngsters are probably ready to feature in the first team, some may need a loan spell or two in League 1 & 2. Academy players develop differently, some are always bound to go out on loan, itās an inevitable process mate.
-
This is an interview with Dyche from 2022, in it he talks about youth development https://trainingground.guru/podcast/sean-dyche-building-burnley-and-beyond/
-
But the fact is they were all of a pretty young age when Dyche used them. People talk as if heās addicted to playing two 30+ year olds at centre half, when Iāll even admit thatās just not the case. Plenty of players go out on loan first before being thrusted into the first team, itās helped the likes of KDH in the past and Nelson this season. Look at bloody Harry Kane for example, he needed four loan spells before coming the striker he is today. It doesnāt matter who the manager is, a select few youngsters are always bound to go out on loan, itās just the nature of football.
-
As much as Iāve bashed him regarding experienced squads, itās not like heās completely disregarded younger players, to say he relies on experience alone is just a false statement. Branthwaite was 20/21 years old when Dyche gave him a chance. Tarkowski was 23 when Dyche signed him for Burnley. Collins was 20 when Dyche signed him for Burnley. Iād be nervous of how heād perceive the likes of Monga and Evans especially, but even though his history of developing younger players is sporadic, Iām willing to admit that history suggests that he doesnāt completely disregard younger talent.
-
With numerous outings likely, as I put on the previous page, this is the perfect opportunity to change style. Even though I donāt want him as manager, lets be honest, the only major changes Dyche would need is a couple of central midfielders and strikers. The defence looks pretty much tailor made for him. Souttar, Nelson and Okoli in particular are perfect for his style imo.
