Election Prediction Competition

I am trying to edit as I go. Any suggestion as to what is wrong?

CH 4 looks good. Paxman is on

The strangest thing is I can't even do a double space even if I try. The forum seems to correct it for me. This whole sentence is double spaced as I type it.

RESULTS AND PRIZES

The much-anticipated results of the Election Prediction Competition are now in, assuming neither Cameron nor Sturgeon resigns in the next 5 days - and the prizes are to be awarded.

RESULTS

Correct Answers:

1) Who will form the next government (5 points)?

Con overall majority

2) Which party or parties will have ministers in the next cabinet (2pts if correct; 1pt deducted if incorrect)

- Conservatives

3) How many seats will be won by each of these parties (2010 totals in brackets): Con (306), Lab (258), LD (57), SNP (6) (for each: 5pts if spot on; 3pts if within 5 seats; 1pt if 6-10 seats out)

- Con 330; Lab 232; LD 8; SNP 56

4) How many seats will be won by each of these parties (2010 totals in brackets): UKIP (0), Greens (1), Plaid (3), DUP (8) (for each: 2 points if spot on; 1 point if only 1 seat out)

- UKIP 1; Greens 1; Plaid 3; DUP 8

5) Who will win each of these seats (1 point each; holder in brackets)?

- Loughborough Con; Thanet South Con; Thurrock Con; Grimsby Lab; Hastings & Rye Con; Hartlepool Lab; Orkney & Shetland LD; St. Ives Con; Rochester & Strood Con, Brighton Pavilion Green, Bristol W Lab, Carlisle Con

6) Name any outgoing cabinet ministers or shadow cabinet ministers who'll lose their seats (2 points for each; 1 point deducted if wrong)

- Danny Alexander; Vince Cable; Ed Davey; David Laws; Douglas Alexander; Margaret Curran

7) Which party will win the most seats (2 points; 10 points if you correctly predict a tie)

- Conservatives

8) Name any party leaders who will have resigned within 1 week of the election (3 points for each; 2 points deducted if wrong)

- Miliband; Clegg; Farage

Prediction Results (placings & points):

1st: Ramboacdc 28

2nd: Bilo 24

3rd: Mark_w 23

4th: MattP 22

5th: Harry-LCFC 19

6th: Alf Bentley 14

7th: Strokes 11

8th: Facecloth 10

9th: MooseBreath 3

10th: Dr. The Singh -500*

* Dr. The Singh deducted 500pts for plagiarising MattP in a desperate and astonishingly successful attempt to win a night out with MooseBreath

** The panel wishes to give special recognition to Harry-LCFC for predicting the demise of Margaret Curran & to Ramboacdc for predicting that the Lib Dems would fall to 17 seats

*** The panel wishes to express its contempt for Alf Bentley's prediction of Con & Lab winning equal seat numbers (though UKIP to win Hartlepool wasn't far off); likewise, Facecloth predicting a Lab seats win, 30 seats for SNP & 37 for Lib Dems

**** The panel's "not as clever as he thinks he is" award goes to Alf Bentley for anticipating the DUP taking the Alliance seat, yet failing to foresee them losing 1 to the Official Unionists

PRIZES

(All prizes to be arranged between prize-winners and prize donors)

Extraordinary developments for the 10th prize....

- Ramboacdc wins 1st prize of a night of charm and sartorial elegance with MattP

- Bilo wins 2nd prize of a night of rancid ale and stale nuts with Alf Bentley (available after the QPR match or any other suitable occasion)

- Mark_w wins 3rd prize of an LSE lecture in the wise company of King GTF (not the real GTF, regrettably)

- MattP wins 4th prize of having his home redecorated by top interior designer Webbo; tax will not be an issue as both are committed to the Tory tax avoidance initiative

- Harry-LCFC wins 5th prize of an evening of poker & poetry with Rincewind (financial terms may be subject to amendment if any of the £13bn welfare cuts affect Pension Credit)

- Alf Bentley wins 6th prize of a free flight and all-expenses-paid-by-Leicsmac trip to Korea to research the Korean education system (report to be submitted to Nicky Morgan)

- Strokes wins 7th prize of a week photographing Bulgarian Orthodox churches with Bovril

- Facecloth wins 8th prize of an evening singing "My old man" and "Wild Rover" in Oadby Wetherspoons with Buce

- MooseBreath wins 9th prize of Jon the Hat's "material living investment pack for the squeezed middle" (you'll love it, Moose)

- Dr. The Singh wins 10th prize and achieves his dream of donning a gimp mask and spending a night at a Conservative Club, where MooseBreath will expose himself, I mean reveal his identity

As the competition only attracted 10 entrants, special arrangements have been made for the 11th prize.

As Messrs. Miliband, Clegg & Farage suddenly have time on their hands, they will join Ramboacdc to spend a "survival month" enjoying dodgy heavy metal in the Vietnam jungle. This event will be televised, "I'm a celebrity" style for the new SnuffTV channel, with the twist that only 1 man will emerge alive from the jungle. Not knowing Ramboacdc, I cannot comment on his chances, but of the other 3 my money is on Clegg. Miliband probably has the boy scout ability to start a campfire from a couple of twigs, but does he have the Ramboesque physique to survive this physical challenge or the ability to eat jungle food without slopping it down his chin? Farage is bound to get involved in a fracas with illegal immigrants from Cambodia or to get drunk on fermented tree sap and crash his palm-leaf parachute into a crocodile swamp. Clegg has the upper-class education, manner and social connections that will ensure he comes out on top (though Cameron might have given him a good hiding if not otherwise engaged destroying the social fabric of the nation).

Ahem, *cough* Con 331.

Only if you include John Bercow, Commons Speaker, as one of your own.....and Cameron & co certainly don't take that view.....

I wouldn't be surprised to see a vote of no confidence in the speaker very shortly.

Buckingham is far too safe a Tory seat not to have a vote with such a slim majority.
