So you mean like the UEFA nations league which is going to be a thing?

yeah, I do like that. definitely a better use of friendlies.  Still feels like it will be presented as a distant second to the Euros, a nifty way of establishing ranking. Having said that, I do enjoy the Euros more than the World Cups anyway so I might be happy enough with this change.

If they did that globally it would be pretty cool, IMHO.

Coward lol

I'd make it so you have to have at least 5 domestic players in your playing squad, pretty sure they are trying to encourage that already.

I'd like to see how much we can improve our game with the help of technology. Not popular with the traditionalists but with the amount of money on the line in some games we can't just leave it to the interpretation of one man and his assistants

Oh and get rid of those useless officials behind the goal. What do they actually do?

christ, that would be dreadful

Basically correct, but I wouldn't necessarily get rid of the WC completely. Tournament football has it's own special appeal, but it's not always a good measure of a team's ability.

A reduced world cup, with less hype would do nicely. If international football was say 80% league and 20% tournament based, i think it would be far more meaningful and entertaining. Coz nobody in their right mind would say Portsmouth was the best team in England in 2008, but it was still fun to see them win a trophy.

International football is at least 80% league. The qualifiers are a league, and then the WC finals group stage is another league. It's only a maximum of 4 games in the WC knockouts and the possible playoff rounds in quallies that is actual knockout football.

Every non-friendly game is important until qualification is secured.

you people would make football so boring

It isn't already? i.e. Ireland vs England today, and probably the same next week.

I'd hesitate to refer to the quallies and group stages as leagues. They're seeded and deliberately arranged to make it as easy as possible for the best teams to get through. It would be like chelsea, man city, utd and arsenal all having their own leagues and only having to play each other competitively every 2 or 3 years.

Admittedly the group stage does get to be a little more interesting and sometimes more competitive than qualifiers. After that the drawn knock out matches go to penalties instead of a replay, which is a little disappointing and about as relevant to 90 mins of football as using a farthest throw-in competition as a match decider. I know it might have to come down to penalties eventually, but surely doing one replay isn't asking too much.

I'd prefer an FA Cup or even Champions League style tournament over the current arrangement.

Retrospective bans for diving like there is in place for violence or spitting. Only way to get rid of it, is to embarrass players.

Also, only give world cups to countries that have already qualified before and able to prove that the stadiums will still be as useful rather than having 70,000 stadiums that are empty or being used at bus depots like there are in Durban, Brasilia and no doubt Qatar.

Mind you, get rid of tedious rules:

yellow card for taking a shirt off.

Going off the pitch and waiting for the ref to wave you back on

Changing shirt because of a tiny spec of blood
