Comments (0) There is a carnival atmosphere in Leicester today as fans get ready to celebrate City being presented with the Premier League trophy this afternoon. Car horns are being blown, people are cheering and chanting and the streets are filling with people wearing blue, turning the city centre into a party zone. Among those enjoying the fun are 10 coach loads of Italians who have travelled across Europe to be here for the celebrations. They held their own mini parade through the city centre, creating a joyful din as they went. Mercury reporter Peter Warzynski, who is among our team of journalists covering today's events, said: "I'd heard rumours of these Italians coming to Leicester, but I didn't believe it. "Then when they turned up, they out-sang the whole city by themselves. They were so loud! "A huge army of Italians came marching down Gallowtree Gate, singing. They all had the same t-shirt on, which said 'Leicester City Champions', and the date 2015/16, and Italian flags, and what looked like rubber chickens on their heads." Mercury reporter Ciaran Fagan, who is covering events in the city centre, said: "The atmosphere is wonderful. City fans in blue and white are everywhere. I've spoken to some of the Italian fans, who set off from Milan a couple of days ago. They said they were here to enjoy 'the fairytale' of Ranieri's success. "Police estimated there are 600 to 700 Italian fans in the city centre today. They marched through the city centre singing Ranieri's name to the tune of Volare. Police were escorting them to Victoria Park, where the party is very much expected to continue." Ciaran also spoke to a group of Evertonians who are going to the match. "They said they would be proud to watch their players give a guard of honour to the City team - it's a tradition that when the champions are declared champions, the team they are playing form a guard of honour on the pitch. "They also said Leicester winning the title was the best footballing achievement since England won the World Cup in 1966." Describing the scenes in the city, Peter said: "Everyone has a Leicester City shirt on. Every street leading to the Clock Tower has Leicester City fans on it, not particularly doing anything, just soaking up the atmosphere."
