JuniorLewis Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 I’m a web developer and I am exploring the possibility of putting together a website of collection Leicester City artefacts, an online museum if you will. I remember reading an interview with John Hutchinson, the clubs historian (you might be here, who knows!), and he mentioned that would like to do something similar, but this interview was from 2009 and unfortunately it looks like it didn’t happen. I was looking to get some thoughts from other Leicester fans. Firstly, is this something you would like? And secondly, what would you like to see / read on it? Personally, I am interested in the more obscure viewpoint; global newspaper / magazine cuttings, homemade flags, bootleg scarves, fanzines, pin badges, and generally things that are made by the fans. Think this would work well alongside the more obvious things like club history with the shirts, badges, players etc. A lot is already out there, but it seems to be pretty spread out and has the odd gap. Would be good to have a complete and concise collection. Been thinking about this for a while, but now just seems like a perfect time. Would be good to get some insight to whether something like this would have an audience!
davieG Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 Sounds good but I think you'd need something to keep it active so people keep coming back other wise it becomes like an online cemetery that people eventually stop visiting As an addition your suggested list extracts from old programmes can make for some interesting reads and laughs. Perhaps you could offer to do it with/for the club either as theirs intended to be or a subsection of theirs when /if they get around to doing it. I think there's probably a lot of fans capable of doing this that could 'assist' if you set up a template/s
Thracian Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 In a supposedly intended tourist town I'm surprised there isn't a proper visitable Leicester City museum and, more especially, now we've got a unique story and significant achievements to be proud of - and more aspects to follow.

A little museum should be built on Filbert Street imo - consider the story of winning the top flight this year, we've won a couple of league cups and a charity shield, played in four FA Cup finals and produced some real greats of the game - Lineker, Shilton, Revie etc.
GloverFox Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 In favour of anything that is accurate, relevant and promotes the history of the club. We've had some horrendously difficult times as well as the good times, before we even start to consider this season breathtaking events ... so yes, I'm in favour so long as it shows things warts and all and it's not a blue-tinted lounge for self gratifying in! But I, like Thracian am amazed there isn't a Leicester City FC museum already!
JuniorLewis Posted 23 May 2016 Author Posted 23 May 2016 Apparently there were plans to make a physical museum when we moved stadium, but then we went into administration.. Seems like a good time for them to think about it again though, maybe the exhibition at the New Walk Museum next month may kick start something. But in terms of a site, what was mentioned above is key, not letting it go stale. Was thinking of maybe doing kind of like online exhibitions, so for a few months it could be programme excerpts, then swap it for something like fan made items.. Then all of the content could be changed every half season or so. All alongside a base of information, history, shirts, badges etc etc
Jace Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 I'd suggest starting off with a Facebook page, reason being it'll be very easy to start up take 10 mins and will be very easy for people to submit content for you to use. Once you've got enough content then you could look to structure the website around that. Dedicated section for Filbert St would be great too

Vlad the Fox Posted 23 May 2016 Posted 23 May 2016 Should be like a wiki, where you can follow a trail of links from one article/page to another jumping back and forth like a freaking Leicester City mad time lord.
