Rob1742 Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 Cambridge - not too far, decent hotels, sites and shopping. Clean and impressive. A great place for a night out. Leeds - if you are looking for somewhere a bit livelier. Great shopping, decent hotels and restaurants. Oxford - decent, but not as nice as Cambridge. Great hotel that used to be a prison. Solihull - nice hotel in Dorridge, Solihull is nice for a wander round. Stratford - to me this has gone downhill. Pound shops have appeared, local shops closed since 2008, not what it was. But obvious history. Stamford - don't like it, but plenty of restaurants though and stopping at The George is nice. Old fashioned. Liverpool - nice shopping, the Albert Dock is good, but prefer Leeds and Cambridge as you need to stay in the decent areas. Coast - Sea Marge at Overstrand. Nice friendly hotel that Winston Churchill used to visit. Great bar and food and relaxing. Go shopping in Norwich, which is a good City. Durham - nice folk up North, nice town, but a long way away. For me, it would be Cambridge, due to distance, history, hotels and restaurants. They have a nice Du Vin?? Plus others, although take your wallet as hotels aren't cheap. Just my thoughts, there is always London of course.
Dr The Singh Posted 13 August 2016 Posted 13 August 2016 Went Birmingham about 2 months ago, with the Mrs, it was the bomb, loads of nice bars, restaurants etc. I was surprised, it's really come of age
