Ric Flair Posted 23 August 2016 Posted 23 August 2016 Stories like this don't help though, yes it appeases the fans for about 5 minutes but it just gets their hopes up. We're working in a notoriously difficult final stage of a transfer window and we're a club that struggles to act ruthlessly as time runs out. We also will not pay over the odds for players which given this article publicly states we're happy to splash the cash on the right players will just mean any player we go for the other club will dig their heels in for more money. I don't think we'll get anyone in other than maybe one loan. I don't think we need a lot, I'd love Dragovic and a central midfielder and that should see us through. We are ok up front, long term I'd like Ulloa replaced with a better powerful centre forward but right now our attacking options are sound. Long term we need another right back but again we are ok for now with Simpson and then Amartey and Hernandez as back up. It's at centre half and central midfield we need another bit of class in there, especially if we are to go 3 in either position then we're massively short of options.

foxes21 Posted 24 August 2016 Posted 24 August 2016 If Benalouane is staying, I think we'll be ok for CB's: Morgan, Huth, Hernandez, Wasyl, Benalouane. Morgan/Huth/Hernandez rotating for the PL/CL & Wasyl + Benalouane partnership for the cups. Decent. I think we'd have signed a RB by now if we wanted one + there hasn't been hardly any links to RB's all summer. I think we can compete with Simpson, Amartey/Hernandez. Whatever you say about Simpson, he is reliable & I can see Amartey growing into the role. I would really like to see a Amartey/Schlupp partnership on the right, as back up to Simpson/Mahrez. So our main priority should be CM, but not a CDM. We already have CDM's in Mendy/James & Amartey can cover there too. If Mendy has been spotted at the stadium walking around, his Injury can't be that long term. What we need is, another box to box CM that will compete with Drinkwater & provide adequate back up should Drinkwater get injured.

Across the the defensive back line, I'm content with what we've got. For me we have enough CB's and although we could do with a recognised RB, Simpson, Amartey, Wasilewski and Hernandez can all cover there. If we're talking absolute priorities it should be a CM and CF in my opinion.

I feel a right back is still important - if Simpson picks up an injury, Hernandez is far better as a centre half and Amartey from what I've seen is better as a defensive mid. We need to bring in a player who consistently plays as a RB and not rely on squad players who can just fill in there.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 26 August 2016 Posted 26 August 2016 On an overview, I'd say we need three more players now. RB - Can Phil Jones play there? If so might be worth having a look. CM - N'Zonzi seems to be the most likely signing for this position at the moment, and I'd be very pleased if so. ST - The final position I feel we could do with investment in. However, I do not see this as essential so wouldn't be overly worried if we do not sign any more strikers, although we do seem keen on Slimani who would be an excellent addition. If we were to sign players in these three positions, I would be happy with our squad & business heading into the season/seasons to come.
