Wilson_6 Posted 31 October 2016 Posted 31 October 2016 Hi Guys, Always seen my self as a centre forward, but struggle to win headers in the team im playing for (Was always one of my strong points) win all the headers in training comes to a match cant win shit in the air i'm 6 ft 1 and never been prolific. So im wondering if playing up front really is for me? I've never been blessed with pace probably the slowest player in my squad. I have a solid touch and can pick out a pass where do you think i could play? Not getting much game time up front now as the gaffer wants pace. I'ts getting to point of i don't care where i play i just want to play for the team lol. Could CDM work for me? Nemanja Matic style

Soar Fox Posted 31 October 2016 Posted 31 October 2016 Centre half. If you're good in the air you'll win more headers playing at the back than up front. Sunday football you won't need pace to play at the back and if you're comfortable on the ball that's better as most Sunday league defenders just hoof it. It's more easier to make the transition from centre forward to centre half than the other way round. Also just remember all the things you hated defenders doing to you when you were a striker. Knee up in the lower back when competing in the air, pinching etc.
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 October 2016 Posted 31 October 2016 Who do you play for Wilson this description (and name) sounds very close to home yet it says you live in Chesterfield

I was a striker for years, had a defensive crisis one week and I got the nod to play centre back by virtue of me being one of the better headers of a ball in the squad. Now been stuck at the back for 4 or 5 years. I moved clubs this season with a view to playing further forward but have ended up in defence again. I've got to the point, like Wilson, where i just wanna make sure I'm playing every week so I'm rolling with it. It's a bit boring sometimes, and you don't get to do as much running as you do elsewhere on the pitch. The team will accept that you're a striker playing out of position and you'll be free to go on a mad one every now and again.

Have you ever played Defensive midfield? My team plays a 4132 with holding cdm we have a good lad who players there but when he dont turn up theres no one to fill the void and a normal cm playing there wants to push forward to much.

I've played everywhere and centre mid (any role) is my least comfortable position. Mainly because I haven't got the awareness for it. I'd just put your name forward for any position that comes available and see how you get on!
FLAN Posted 1 November 2016 Posted 1 November 2016 I was a pretty decent CB who couldn't head the ball very well at all. I just read the game well and made it difficult for the striker to make a difference with his headers. Regarding an earlier post - has anyone really pinched or been pinched during a game since they left nursery?

I've been pinched, Feet stood on, pushed, pulled shirt, flicked balls the lot!

I've been pinched on the back, had hair pulled from my arm, defenders step back onto my foot. Anything to try and get me riled, lose concentration etc. I used to go the other way and talk to whoever I was playing against. Telling them they aren't very good, that I'm going to win the next header. You get a feel very early on what type of player you are up against and try to look for any weakness they have got. I used to play with a lad who enjoyed playing against a big striker who would foul & use his elbows. He said it made him play better and more determined.
