An Away Move Posted 27 February 2017 Posted 27 February 2017 One of the best things Pearson created and left as a legacy was team character IMO. I think this is the key ingredient that led to The Great Escape and our title win. BUT how much of a double edged sword has it become? And what is needed from the next manager? Should it be a light touch harnessing what exists? Or more of a 'root surgery'? Is the latter possible if deemed required seeing as our dressing room seems quite vocal and 'set'? Ranieri came in and must have had his own ideas but he was astute enough to pick up on the strength of the team character and last season pretty much left well alone and harness what he inherited. It seems that when he attempted to put more of his own stamp and ideas on the team this season and it might have ran in to friction. I am worried that whoever comes in next is going to face the same dilemma. Which begs the question who runs the team? And how does the next manager strike the right balance? You've all been watching the last few seasons with the same team nucleus. What is needed? And is that different to getting the best out of what have got? Discuss.
Deucalion Posted 27 February 2017 Posted 27 February 2017 It reminds me of Peter Taylor trying to control O'Neill's players.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 27 February 2017 Posted 27 February 2017 Depends on who we're getting in. Most managers will now be wary of the dressing room, especially those who were signed while in the Championship, but either Shakey or Nige will be able to use it.
dynamark Posted 27 February 2017 Posted 27 February 2017 Pearson-we were cacking useless results wise for 3/4 of a season .I got the distinct impression that the players 'went for broke' and managed the escape with a different set up New manager needs to find a way to stop shipping goals and pickup around 15 points and that will be success.Thats all we need now.
cc_star Posted 27 February 2017 Posted 27 February 2017 Confidence We know what these players can do, they need confidence to do it One of the things Pearson was able to do, which Ranieri has failed miserably at... was never letting the player's heads drop, no matter how bad it got Whereas under Ranieri, heads have dropped all the way through, almost from the start Shakey (apparently) has an ability to lift the gloom, hopefully we see that tonight Vs Liverpool BUT, 7-10 months of rot can't be cured in one training session & one match, it may take a few games to turn the corner
