Remember how Leicester City were going to embarrass England in the Champions League?

Remember how those bitter fans from envious clubs whined that the Premier League champions would harm our co-efficient in Europe?

Remember how Leicester would do so badly that soon the Premier League might only get three Champions League places in future years.

What would Arsene Wenger do then, if fourth place did not matter? Good job for him that England will be pretty much guaranteed four spots anyway from 2018-19 onwards.

Ah, yes. We remember.

Well, we remembered it when Leicester won their group and qualified for the knock-out stages with a game to spare.ty Images

And we certainly remembered it when they reached the quarter-final, as the last English club standing.

So, now that they are out, just what has City's exploits in the Champions League done to the co-efficient?

Well, they have pulled it up considerably, while others have dragged it down.

Leicester earned 22 co-efficient points for England this season, thanks to their five wins, a draw, and reaching the last eight. That has put them 56 th out of the 453 clubs included over the past five seasons.

It's a pretty complicated formula, which includes then adding 20 per cent of your associations co-efficient over the same five-year period. It is one which will take far too much time and effort explaining here. If you really want to get lost in that maths labyrinth, you can read up on all of it here.

Here's the basics: England's overall co-efficient for this season is 14.071. That's worked out by averaging out the scores of all the English clubs who were in Europa and Champions League action. That puts us third for this season, and keeping us third overall.

City's is the highest of all the seven clubs involved. Manchester United are next on 20, but could overtake as they are into the Europa League semi-final. Then it's Arsenal (19), Man City (18), Tottenham (10), Southampton (6) and West Ham (1.5).

So, it was Tottenham who dragged it down, knocked out in the group stages.

Not Leicester, after all.

How embarrassing…

We should volunteer to takes Spurs spot for them next year, as they seem to struggle with the task.

If we ever make the CL again, assuming we don't win the PL, we will definitely be in pot 4 (unless we have had several decent Europa league campaigns in the years leading up to qualification.)

our five year aggregate co efficient now up to 37

I'm so glad we fvcked it up for everyone.

But let's be honest how often do pundits and other fans get anything right about us.

This is something that people should be calling in to talk shows and TV programmes crowing about until the end of time.

Arsenal going out 10 - 2.

Spurs impotent and out.

Manchester City (I think) being anonymous.

We shouldn't let the fans of the 'big 4' forget this in a hurry.
