Guest freund Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Looks like Souness has quit Blackburn for Newcastle. I have no idea why Newcastle would want Souness, he'll probably be a failure!
Guest freund Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Graeme Souness has been confirmed as the new manager of Newcastle United. The 51-year-old Scot has quit his post at Blackburn and will take over at St James' Park next Monday. A Newcastle United club statement read: "Graeme Souness leaves Blackburn Rovers today to take up the position of team manager of Newcastle United. Souness will take over at Newcastle next week "Souness, who has been in talks with Blackburn and Newcastle over the weekend, will take up his new post next Monday, September 13, after a week's 'garden leave', covering Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League match against Blackburn at St James' Park next Saturday." Souness' appointment ends days of speculation and comes as a surprise. The former Liverpool midfielder was thought to be behind candidates such as Terry Venables, Steve Bruce and David O'Leary. He replaces Sir Bobby Robson, who was sacked last month after five years as manager. From the Telegraph site
Ric Flair Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Hahahaaa!! Could Adams be re-united with the wasp?
davieG Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Hahahaaa!!Could Adams be re-united with the wasp? 17342[/snapback] No I think they will nip in and get Strachan
Scow Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 A very odd appointment. Souness has done nothing special in his career, not sure how he's earned this opportunity to be Newcastle manager. I thought Terry Venables was likely to be appointed, there were also rumours of David O'Leary and Steve Bruce being lined up for the position. Just been watching Sky Sports and their fans are disgusted. :w00t:
Mark Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Well that was a shock How long has he signed for? (not that it matters) He'll only be there till Shearer says he's ready to be manager anyway

SilverFox Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Paul Dickov stated that one of his main reasons for going to Blackburn was his admiration of Souness and that he wanted to work for him...........................................................................gutted!
Teeno Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 He hasn't really done much in his carrer for a club like Newcastle to be wanting him I would of thought, but he has a lot of empthusiasm and commitment which will get him far.

Wellman Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 this is a step backwards for newcastle in my opinion. He has done nothing at Blackburn, REALLY and I haven't got a clue why Newcastle would want him. I laughed when i saw this, i really did ::
City Fan Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Let's hope that MA goes to Blackburn so we can have Mike Newell!

I was just trying to encourage you to read your work before posting as in general they looked like typing errors as opposed to spelling ones. It also undermines the intent of your post. Sorry if I have caused any offence that really was not my intention at all. Please accept my apologies. If you wish I will arrange to have my post deleted.
Teeno Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Don't worry about it man. Thanks for the apology, it's well appreciated.
TrickyTrev Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 They could have done better than this. Adams is not even a contender for the Blackburn job. I would have thought Houllier will now get the Blackburn job.
Guest freund Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Apparently his first game as Newcastle boss is against Blackburn that should be interesting
Ash Posted 6 September 2004 Posted 6 September 2004 Newcastle have appointed Souness , Because good managers like O'Leary & Bruce didnt wanna know
DesertFox Posted 7 September 2004 Posted 7 September 2004 I still don't get this whole 'Newcastle are a massive club' thing personally. Yes, they are a big club, they've got cash, they've got a lot of fans, but why should that add up to being a massive club? I'd rather decide who was a big club on the pitch... in which case, Blackburn are bigger! They've won the league and Fizzy Pop cup in the last ten years, which is a damn sight more than the under-achieving Geordies. What have Newcastle actually won in the last 20, 30 years, apart from the 1st Div under Keegan? Nothing. I've not got anything against Newcastle, or any love for Blackburn, and of course Newcastle will always be seen as the 'bigger' club, but I find it a shame that so many City fans dismiss Blackburn and big up Newcastle, when we should surely be fighting for recognitoin for the 'smaller' clubs (yes, like us) when we over-acheive. It's what happens on the pitch that counts! I liked to think that we were one of the biggest clubs in the country five, six years ago... Also, as much as Souness is a dislikable character, and hasn't exactly set the world on fire as a manager, he has actually done a pretty decent job at Blackburn. They've not had the anything like the sort of money pumped in as they did when Dalglish was in charge, and he's won them a trophy. Think about it - how many managers have won a domestic trophy in the past ten years? Not too many, and not too many shabby ones either. Newcastle would have dearly loved to have won that. Add to that the fact that a lot of very well respected people actually invcolved in football at the 'sharp end' (which we, as fans, don't see) have a lot of time for him and rate him highly. Also, consider the idea of him 'falling out with players'... he fell out with Dwight Yorke - not the first manager to do that. He fell out with Gillespie and Curtis, et al... well, we know about them now. Maybe he's actually just not prepared to put up with the spoilt brat antics of some of the 'superstar' footballers. Why should managers pussy-foot around these over-sized egos while the fans continue to pay their superstar wages? If they can't be bothered, maybe it's right for the club and the fans to get the arse with them and boot them out. Sorry for this largely unprovoked rant, but I just think that the reaction to this story is all too typical in modern day football supporters, and especially disappointing in fans of the underdogs like City. I think it's pretty obvious that what Newcastle need right now is someone who will roll up their sleeves and give the players and the rest of the club an enormous kick up the arris! Enter an angry Scotsman... Fergie's not available, Strachan is on his sabatical.... who ya gonna call?
