I still think this obsession with cramming players in at any cost has worked against us to be honest.

Great point.

For ten years we knew Lampard and Gerrard didn't work, we still played them both.

We all know at the World Cup as well no matter how awful Kane, Sterling and Alli will be they'll all start every match as well. Probably for next ten years.

Yep, if the manager picked the style of football that they want to play and then picked the players who have the ability to play that way, we stand a chance in tournament football. Right now the style of play is chosen by the FA and the players are picked according to Err we’ll err dunno really....

The rules to English tournament football:

1. If you play a good team sit deep and shit yourselves hoping to convert the one chance you get on the break and hold on.

2. If you play a weak team play a higher line and tap it around in the final third for 90 minutes creating four chances in the 90.

Kill me now.

...and that's because we lack any quality creative players, two footed players that are more than comfortable with the ball and who can trap it with any part of their body.

We still seem to have an overriding obsession with identifying and developing players with pace whether they have any of the above attributes or not which is great for a top teams with foreign developed creative midfielders playing against defensive minded lower teams but much less useful against other national teams with a better balance and ball skills through out the team.

Then there's our defenders.........
